just found a 96 240sx and also a sr20det. the car is an automatic and all this in one package will cost me 11 grand. that includes the car, engine, 5spd conversion, harness, front mounted intercooler, and a number of other extras. i just need to know if this is a good deal.

bad deal!!

If the guy got an SR engine and is selling it with the car, that means he was planning to put that engine in and probably lost interest or got lazy, or something is wrong with the car so he just doesnt wan to deal with it. This car is automatic, thats the first reason i wont buy it, second , swapping the 5 speed into automatic will be the biggest pain in the butt!! also this guy is asking to much for a 96 period, the SR engine you can get for about $2-$3k is you look around, from my opinion i would rebuild any engine i get because you dont know how bad it actually is.

I mean you can get a 240 with an SR engine already in there for about $10k, but it wont be in best condition, but still, you gonna pay all tha money to buy all this, then spend another $6-$7K putting it all in, including the tranny and the SR and the wiring, man its just not worth it, and then not to mention the Tranny you got is it from the Sr engine or just a stock 5 speed 240 engine, because i doubt that will bolt on to the SR engine, so you are looking at $20k just on top of my head.

So dont buy it. Better off buying a stock 240 for like $5-6k and then work your way up from that, thats what im doing, got mine for $4800 with 5 speed and about 120k miles, but ill be rebuilding the internals so its no biggie, plus i got mine from some old man who paid like $3-4k to paint this car, because it was black and the guy just wanted it to be like new again and its the cleanest 240 i have ever seen, only the rims suck.

good luck

the engine has 33 thousand kilometers on it. and the tranny is the silvia tranny. it includes a lightweight flywheel and stage 3 clutch. the car isn't in the best condition but the swap isnt done. the swap will only be done if i agree to purchase. the price includes all wiring and equipment for the complete swap. and is guaranteed by the shop. does this change anything or is it still a bad deal.

So they have a 96 240SX that they are going to convert to a 5spd and swap SR20 motor and sell it for 11 grand. Thats not something I would go for, but I can do the swap myself easy enough. Considering labor on the swap, the 5spd converision they are doing for you and the cost of the car, I can't say that that isn't too bad a deal.

yea if they are doing all the work for you including the engine and tranny swap and making it all happen for you for $11k and you just pay and drive it , then i think its a good deal, unless this shop sucks. Also you might want to look into the SMOG regulations in your area because if you dont pass smog you wont register it so there goes your $11k down the drain. Look into that. and if the shop is doing the smog thing for you to so you will be able to pass, then ill just go and buy it myself haha...

First, i wouldn't buy a car that's already "made" for that much money. there's no fun left for you to do. Anyway, doing a tranny swap + an engine swap on a car will leave the car very unstable. There will be misfits everywhere and rattling/vibrating here and there. i guess bottomline is... it's not worth it. Unless your going "fo sho".

the place is millenium autosports in Norfolk, Va. and they specialize in JDM engine conversions. it has been highly recommmended that i go to them in the first place. as for the car. i havent found a 5spd 240sx in 2 months. nobody knows and nobody can help. an abundance of automatics and no 5spds. i really appreciate all the help but it seems to be even on the yes and no's. but yeah they will do all the work and i really never thought that the conversion would cause any driving trouble.

i agree with SHIFT_KA24DE . dont buy a car that is already mad. man u got 11G lying around to spend like that? u must be saving for a long ass time like i did..and i still dont have shit for my car yet bc im broke again. haha but ne wayz damn how u get 11G . i personally wouldnt buy a car that is already made. i would get teh car stock andslowly get to know it . play with it. and mod it . thats the only way to know wut your doing . plus u learn a lot on the way.
