Auto-dimming mirrors-do I need em?

I just told my dad yesterday that when we ordered our car with separate options so we could get the premium pkg stuff with aluminum trim, we can't get auto-dimming mirrors. He got pissed off because he hates being "nickeled and dimed." Seems BMW does that too much. My question is, what the hell are they? My dad says they are very important and that most every car has them standard, and that BMW is bullshit not to make it available. Are they that important? What is it like without them? Do you use them?

nah. you don't really need an auto dimming mirror. and they are definetley NOT standard equipment on any other cars. As with all options on a luxury model, it''s just something that is more cool- although auto dimming mirrors are somewhat practical. They basically dim themselves according to lighting conditions so you don't get headlight glares shining in your face during the night when you have some moron tailgaiting you. hope that helps

I have to disagree. Auto-dimming mirrors were standard on my 2000 VW GTI VR6 and I have to admit I would not like to be without them. I know that Audi S4 comes with auto dimming side mirrors as well, I am going to look in to getting auto-dimming side mirrors for my 330ci. There are far too many fecking SUVs that dazzle the heck out of you around here
