1985 Front-Wheel Drive Hood Release Help

As I've said I own a 1985 Sedan DeVille with front-wheel drive. A week or so ago I was in an accident (not my fault) and the front left side of the car was bent in a bit, but no real damage was done. The car is still driveable, but when I went to open the hood the release either snapped or came undone. Now I'm trying to figure out a way to open the hood. The main problem is once I removed the grill I had easy access to the safety latch, but it seems that the main latch that holds it securely is farther back. I removed a fan so I could reach underneath and try and release it, but my attempts have failed.

If anyone has any idea on how I can go about opening my hood I would be very appreciative. Thanks in advance.
