Hartge BMW M5 w/19" rims progress

I am redoing this BMW M5 which I built 10 years ago with very bad red paint and other problem.

It took 1 week to get the paints off using DOT3 fluid and sanded a lot. Interior is also rebuilt.

Modification:
- Lowered 2-3mm for the front and rear
- Add front lip for the bumper

Comments welcome......

By the way, should I add the wing?

Sweet !! Nice look you got there with the lowering, good luck, and I think you should add the wing, but that's just me !

I love those M5's. THe ride height is great! I'd go wingless with this Bimmer. Or maybe a small lip on the trunk.

Hey! It's been a long time since we've seen a thread from you. Perfect rim choice on that thing, and it sits just right. Any thoughts on how you're going to paint it? VIP neutral colors or something flashier? And since it's an M, I'd go with the spoiler.... just adds a little more to the sports look.

keep up the good work!

Cool... I think the wing is a bit off. Since the car look very VIP, so maybe it will have VIP kind of low-downforce wing. :p

Very nice to see a M5. IMO the wing would go with it because of it being an M.

The wing is okay, but it doesn't really add anything to the rest of the car-it looks just as good without it. My preference would be a small lip spoiler like BMW has on the new M3's and M5's. The wing you show dates the car, while your lowering and new rims make it look more modern. :)

definetely no wing, the rest of the styling - lowering and big rims does not fit with it.

as everyone says a small lip spoiler, as in the new m5, would be best...if possible.

That will look great when done...nice pick for the wheels.
Go wingless to keep it smooth looking

Wingless. The wing takes the classiness out of it.

I always liked the E34 M5!
Awesome job with the front lip.
And those wheels have a certain M-Power look to them...I think they remind me of the E36 M3-Lightweight 5pokes...anyways you've picked a very appropriate wheel, and the ride height is great!

If you're counting the wing on/off votes, put me down for wingless.
Or use a E39 M5 style lip :iceslolan

Awsome stuff! Go with a wing but use a molded into the truck type of lip and make it look good! :)

It may be more classy (by classy I mean genaric) without the wing, but that beast is lowered, and has 19" wheels, it needs that wing. I would also go with a nice big muffler, much like dados M3.

Thanks for the comments.

- will amend the muffler later
- :screwy: original wing has been chopped to flat lip. :grinno:

I just google the ref pic of E39, I think I should extend the lip to the edge of the trunk like this:

I would also go with a small lip on the extreme rear of the trunk and rear wings. Great rims, look good with silver or platinum color body.

I can't wait to see this painted. With or without wing, it'll still look good.

:disappoin I have chopped the original wing to the flat wing.

Will go with Silver trim to make it vip look if I decide to paint it in black/dark blue color.

Stay tuned! :)

Do you think I should make the edge of the muffler thicker?

keep it the way it is or make it thinner if possible, can we get a bottom shot?

I would pull it in a little unless you want it to look real hardcore VIP, then you oughta make it longer! And stick up. Otherwise... looks fine to me.

Who makes this kit? You're making me want to "un-M" the kit to make my grandpa's 540.
Anyways, the car looks great. I really like the square tip; just use some thinner styrene or sand it down a little. Keep it up!

joecwlaw
10-17-2004, 02:51 AM
Thanks for all the input. The muffler is made out from styrene and will be sanded to smooth and sharper.

Fujimi makes the kit, this is the Hartge tuning version which is oop already.
