Lost Key

I just purchased an 04 Rodeo. The day before I was supposed to pick it up, the dealer advised that they lost one of the keys with the keyless entry buttons. They also advised that a new key was back ordered and would take about one week to arrive. When the new key arrives, they said they could reprogram the ECM so that it would no longer recognize the lost key. Can this really be done and, if so, why do they have to wait for the replacement key to do it.

Thank you for any assistance you can offer.

Here's what they'll do to reprogram your new remote/key FOB: (thanks to amigo2K) http://www.geocities.com/endre_rl/isuzufaq.htm#faq41
This will wipe out the old code(s), so no worries with that. Can't do much for the "lost" key though :uhoh: . Only way to safeguard yourself from that would be to changeout the ignition. I wouldnt worry about it, but hopefully your dealer eased your pain from that by giving you some freebies :naughty: . Congrats on your 2004 purchase! Do you have the new DI 3.5L by chance? How do you like your '04 so far?

Thanks for the information and link, it is much appreciated. I did get the DI 3.5 but haven't picked it up yet. I had an 03 with the 3.2 (got totaled from behind last weekend) and was happy with that. I am looking forward to the extra ponies with the 3.5.

Sorry to hear about the fender bender. You got yourself a nice truck! Not too many *sightings* of the new 3.5L on the 'zu sites yet. You got a sturdier transmission with the 3.5L as well. I guess it's an AW 3080LE same automagic used in toyota 4x4's & others from what I understand.
