My 1997 1.6 auto. Megane has been difficult starting for some time. No codes available from the ECU. Now the engine cuts out when running at slow speed. Has anyone had one or both of these problems. Please help the car is a dream to drive and I don't want to replace it.

My 1997 1.6manual has a similar problem. It is difficult to start in the morning or first time in the day, also when running and I press the clutch to change gear the engine cuts out, but sometimes it is fine and sometimes over revs. I think it is something to do with the idling valve but am not sure.
Any other suggestions from anyone else

got the same trouble, mines an auto ,runs just fine then for no reason stalls then won,t run at all, there is an audible noise from the brown relay , bottom left of the fuse box,and a noise in the engine bay which i can,t track down,i changed the relay (injection lock relay !) still nothing then a gurgling noise (petrol filling the fuel rail)and it starts!!!! only to run good for a short while then stop again.strangest thing it stalls when put in drive but does,nt when put in reverse!!!!! baffling ,a code read came up with throttle position sensor ,no good. any help appreciated.

Not a mechanic but had a Saxo a while back, it did near enough the same thing except it would wait usually till I was in the middle of a busy junction or on the motorway grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, my problem was a fault with the immobiliser or at least a connection to it which randomly (at the most inconvieniant times) decide to rearm itself and as soon as i touched a pedal it would cut out %^"$%&*"
Hope this helps
