Post your box contents

I thought that when people get a new model they could post the contents of the box on here so that others can see if they too would like to get a particular kit. I think it would be quite a good thing as long as pictures are of a good quality. Useful for seeing how many parts you get, if the parts you want are included and that sort of thing.

If you go to www.1999.co.jp you will see most of this already done with most kits :p

I'm so terribly sorry for not knowing every site that exists on the web and i happened to think it was a good idea.

Link works for me.
Also Hobby Search don't have the contents of every kit, just the ones they currently stock. So this idea could have some merit.

Thank you Rallyraider. That is exactly my point. And yes it seems to work now, but it didn't the first time i tried it.

Also it would be nice to strart something like that so we wouldnt have to go to another website. Also for newbies who dont know all of the stores and modeling links.

and those that don't read the faq.... 1999.co.jp is on the FAQ

but since hobbysearch have the box content of every new kit, that would be a waste for space imo... Newbee don't even read the faq, so I don't think they would read a box content thread, even if it's sticky with blinking red letter.

More people doing refiew in the review thread would be much better and more usefull.

just my :2cents:

I tend to agree with Eric.

But a review with pics would be even better, surely.

I think it's a great Idea, I love looking at what's inside these boxes.

Should we post pictures on this thread or makes a new one?

Well, if you're talking a Review with pics, maybe it should be something that goes in the kit review thread?
It sounds like that's what you're heading for Tikiman?

Yeah, actually I think it's a way better way then just the review threads, I mean, if everybody would make a new thread if they get a model first , or some special model, or some oldschool and rare model, we all would see this at once, without haveing to read insanely amounts of text, and besides, who doesn't like to watch these inbox pics... ?

And it would be very nice if we could some sort of link archive to all these picture reviews, like we already have with meets and with the motorsport archive...

What do you guys think?

Olivier

What if the reviews thread was changed to it was a series of links, like the 'How To' section, that way, if people posted a thread to review a model with photos and all that, then a mod could add the link to the reviews thread 'index' for the new review?

I suppose that having it as links to threads would be a good idea but then it is more work for somebody. I just think there should be a permanent thread where people post pics of box contents. The reviews are usually not that good (sorry) and maybe people aren't so good at english and you know what they say:
A picture paints a thousand words.

That's what I've been screaming about since it's inception! I'd be happy to do it myself had I any mod powers.

And Tikiman - as someone who's posted a few reviews that apparently "are usually not that good;" I don't see you posting any reviews in there?

Well, if you want to give it ago, post a thread and i'll make it a sticky at the top of the page and we will see how it works out

I like the idea of posting pictures of the box contents, too. However, we have the Review section, so it looks kinda redundant to have a separate thread. Maybe the poster in the Review section can kindly start including a few photos of the contents from now. The photos must be bigger than the ones available at Hobby Search, though.

The pictures also need to be permanent. Sometimes when I search here for a particular kit I find the pics are a series of red x's because the individual has removed them. Just my $.02.

That is a good point. If you use the gallery on AF they stay there for as long as you have your account i think. And there seems to be a huge ammount of space in each account. I usually post pictures between 400 and 600 pixels wide which is a good size and they are under 20 kb each. That is thanks to photoshop. Before i descovered a certain technique i was struggling to get them under 80 kb and over 300 pixels wide.
