More swap questions

A few things I need to know for I do this:

Basically I wanna do this right and make the swap as easy as possible. The guy that will probably do it has experience in swapping with hondas, so he should be pretty good. I just wanna get the details down so I dont run into any silly problems and have to order some stupid part and wait forever for it. Any suggestions/criticisms are appreciated.

What other things do I need if I ordered a swap package from an internet site (I was thinking www.jdmhondaparts.com). It comes with engine (+fuel rails, alternator, starter, etc), ECU, tranny (w/clutch), axles + intermediate shaft, shift linkage, engine harness. Its gonna be like 1250 (+300 for LSD) _ shipping. I was going to get the HASport mount kit and shift linkage (to make it easier). Will these axles work, or do I need to find some teg ones?

I wanna get some good aftermarket parts, which car (Del Sol vtec?) should I get these for? AEM CAI, DC 4-2-1 header, ACT clutch, chipped ecu (maybe I will just have jdmhondaparts give me there program already installed). Should I look for anything else like fuel rails or ignition? any suggestions on other manufacturers or parts to get?

What about the electronic in my car, is anything gonna change/not work anymore even if it is wired correctly? I was just gonna keep my si gauge cluster in there for now, or do you suggest the SiR cluster?

MAybe Phatwippin should stop by and supervise :P. I'm just gonna get a loan for all this shit, so I wanna make sure I get enough to cover everything I need to make this as problem-free as possible.

Sorry for the long post, but you guys are my best resource since so many of you have done this before and ran into different problems. Any help is appreciated - Thanks a million.

for the header, you can get it off a del sol vtec, or the 99-00 si, both should work fine. As for the cai, i hear the 99-00 si one works, although you might have to relocate your battery to do so. Also, i believe the cai for our cars works as well, although the diameter of the piping is smaller
get the clutch for a 90-91 teg, and just have jdm burn your ecu

hope that helps a little
another thing, im not sure if this applies to hasport kits, or the hcp kits(forgot:o ) but you might also need the rear transmission mount bracket from a 90-93 teg...im sure someone else here can confirm or correct this. have you looked at phatwhippens site yet?
peace

thanks eightohone, I forgot to mention I had Greddy SP catback already - will that bolt to those headers with a little modification? I already have a DC sports intake, you think I could make that work? I dont wanna be cheap, but that would be stupid to buy an new intake without actually needing one. I have glanced over phatwippins site a few times before, guess it's time to look again :). werd

im sure it will still bolt to the cat, although i read you gotta flip it 180 deg. or something like that...although if it doesnt fit, im sure its a cheap job to get done at a muffler shop. Im a cheap bastard, so id check to see if the dc could be bolted on first, but thats just me.

also check b16a.honda-perf.org for some more info

Should I grab the 4-2-1 (1piece) or the 4-1 (2 piece)DC header - does it matter? I'm figuring the 1 piece has better flow capability.

What does the mount kit/shift linkage cost? I'm thinking of getting my engine at the same place..

Also, is the LSD worth the extra $$$?

The mount kit Is around 400-450, depending where you find it. I got some guy that might sell me one for 300, but now he says its not the billet kit - anyone know what other kit it could be? The shift linkage runs around 200, I noticed 13second civic has it for 180 @ www.pri-racing.com . I will prolly grab it from him.

They list these two items as included with the engine:

E) Shift linkage.
F) Stock OEM engine mounts.

Will these not work with the swap, or you just want something better?

the 4-1 header is preferred by most, but its a really tight fit(have to grind/hammer the front cross memeber for fitment) It also hangs really low.
phatwhippin has a 4-1 on his rex, as him about the procedure he did to get it to fit, he might even have some pics:D

i am currently installing a B16 from jdmhondaparts. i got a real clean engine, 5 million series too:D . you can't use the stock mounts, they are set up for right hand drive. The shift linkage that came w/ the engine didn't fit, even though all marking on the engine said it came from a crx. To save yourself some headaches, go ahead and buy adjustable linkage.

As for mounts, i used the billet mounts from hasport. They wern't really that hard to put in, and they look great!

I also found that I have to buy new axles, even though they came w/ the kit. Just a warning, the passanger side fit, but the driver side doesn't. Have fun w/ the swap!!

Has anyone bought an engine from these guys, also in the LA area...

http://www.nippon-motors.com/performance_engines.htm

$200 less than JDMHondaParts, but what's $200 if the engine is crap?

Thanks for the advice on the mounts/linkage...

hey crX-rated - what axles did you have to end up getting to work? Also, which ecu did you get? Thanks for speaking up, nice to hear from someone who bought theirs from the same place I was gonna get mine.

I snuck this question in earlier about the HASport mount kit - but now it's starting to bother me. What exactly would the kit be if it is the non-billet version? Is that just last year's (and previous years) model, cuz the billet kit is advertised as new for '02. On HASport's site they hint that maybe there was a change in engine placement with the new ones, but if its just about looks, I could care less. I emailed HAsport and they havent gotten back to me for a couple days now :(

i am installing the axels right now. 89 'teg axels are too short, so i'm goin w/ 90-93 tegs. if that doesn't work, i'm prob gonna have to get the custom axels that HASport recomends.

I got the PW0 ecu, used the HASport wire harness, and so far, the engine starts w/o any codes:hehe:

glad i could help, hopefully my swap will be finished soon and i'll post some pics
