anyone have any ideas on where I can found out the PSI at which a standard 2 liter bottle will rupture?? Anything at all will help, so I better get at least 1 reply :p

*edit* wow google actually pulled through on this one!!! I guess most manufacturers test their bottles to a threshhold pressure of 150 PSI. Good, that's lower than I thought it would be. Now I need to know where I can find some very fast opening solenoid valves for a reasonable price.

i dont know, but an easy way to find out would be to take a bike pump with a PSI guage on it, hook it up with a nice air tight seal, and start pumping. Most likely though the bottle wont blow up, the cap will just crack and blow off.

You mean the big plastic bottle rockets?
I did this once, I drilled a hole in the top put in an air valve and hooked up the compressed air.
The plastic cap let go at about 50 psi, but the clear plastic was still intact.

Yeah, the 150 psi is right. I know that for a fact becasue I work at Coke bottling plant, manufacturing statistics, blah blah, blah. One thing is for certain...if you throw a 2 liter bottle way into the air, and it lands on it's cap, in some instances I've sent one rocketing over the aisles over 50 feet in distance and heighth, only the ceiling stopped it...I recommend trying it if you got the time and money. But dont have any managers or forklifts around if you do it...horrible interference

Heh, when I worked at the supermarket, I cut a 2.25l bottle open and sprayed it on a customer! He was a dick.

What we do at work is get a 20 ounce bottle(empty), put a air hose end in the cap, screw the cap on, place the bottle a safe distance away, and plug the air hose in..Good results..
