are u sure u know how to shift?
i have never heard of this happening... and i would doubt it would happen to a toyota unless it was heavily abused... especially to a car as new as 2001

You see problems on these boards because the car is nearly 20 years old now and normally was thoroughly "enjoyed" its whole life. :)

1. You're right, if this is a true story, that specific MR2 has to be a lemon, or abused and it became a POS. But do remember that Toyota has plenty of experience with mid engines, engines, transmissions, MR2's and cars in general. Its not a big MR2 problem, because if it was, we'd know about it.
2. You only hear people post about MR2 problems because only people post when they have a problem or a question. Its not representative of the whole community. My MR2 turbo has 156k+ on it, origional clutch and still in perfect condition, runnin smooth...
3. This looks like a troll post, by a guy who bought a brand new 350Z and got beat by some tuned MR2 Spyder, and wanted to try to make a blow at the MR2 community. I hope this isnt so, but if it is... There arent many fast MKIII MR-S's in the USA. If you ran into one, dont be mad, be shocked and impressed.

Sure they maybe be slow as hell, but they can HANDLE. I recently drove one at valet and did lock to lock turns in the parking lot and the tires barely squealed. Now i know it could also mean that there isnt enough power to squeal the tires but it sure felt like i was riding on a merrygo round. I am very curious on working on one, prolly drop a turbo in there and watch it kill on the track or a back road  .

EVERYONE, please stop reviving old threads like this. if you have something to say that inhances the quality of the thread, then by all means; post! but please do not bring back threads like this that were not started with the best intentions (more of a stress release...) or those in which the origonal poster doesn't seem to be around any more.
