Take it somewhere else and have them look at it. Not to bash pep boys, but before you're ready to junk the car take it somewhere better. If you can describe the noise maybe someone on here could help you out a little.

Ditto, knocking could be many things. could be a rod, could be a collapsed lifter, could be a bad idler or loose belt driven componient. The mileage seems real low for the engine to fall apart. What year and engine do you have and what conditions cause the knock (acceleration, high temp, idle, reving)?

I have a four cylinder engine, and its a decked out 92 chevy cavalier, had one owner before me, nice body work/paint.ive always kept up on this car.
i do know pep boys said i have a bad sheild leak?and idea on how to fix this and exactly what it is?whatever it is, he didnt bother explaining.and what i don get is that the engine light has not come on..and i know it works.
heres how it is...
i first noticed that the car was feeling funny when it started getting cold out.after i turn on the car and finally get done turning the key there is a scraping noise that comes from underneath the car.theengine ticks, but it has ben going away.the other day when i shifted to drive the brakes werer touchy and the back f the car lifted up.
oh and the knock onlymes on when the car is started.recently the engin has seemed quiet?should i charge my batterry or anything.suggest a tune up???

This knocking is only valve train noise. These engines are known to be noisey. This noise is easy to fix, but it is pretty harmless if you don't. If you do wish to fix it yourself I would suggest a Haynes or Chiltons manual. They will have clear directions and good photos.
The scraping noise sounds like your starter bendix is sticking. A rebuilt starter is about $39.
I do believe Pep Boys is full of hot air. I have two of these engines and have rebuilt several over the years. I have never heard of a "shield" much less that it could leak.
You may also try changing to a thinner oil say a 5w-30 this may help some with your knocking noise.
The back of the car lifting up means your rear brakes or the parking brake is sticking. Good Luck.
