This is not really about 240 but it involves cars and speed. Here is the link http://www.11alive.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=52953 people from the lexus lost controll and hit a pole, 1 (knew him) deid instanly, another (my moms friend's son, i knew him) died in the ambulance and the other one survived (the driver) in the other car was my sisters class mate who had an accord nothing happened to that guy bit got charged with vehicular homicide, reckless driving, speeding and drag racing.
I posted this so that people will not drag race (or race) on the streets because you gonna kill other people and trust me it feels way different when it's people that you know died out there. IT DOES NOT WORTH IT!!! Plus you gonna kill your beautiful 240 that you love so much. Pls take it to the strip or track.

even if people do read this they arnt going to stop street racing. their idiots who think they have something to prove to their girlfriends. they want to show off in thier crappy cars and say they're awesome at driving.
there was this kid at my school with a crappy civic that would race someone every chance he got. the first week he got the car he crashed and laughed. he said it doesnt matter, his parents would fix it for him. half a year later he was racing and he crashed into a pole. his girlfriend was in the car and she broke both of her rists. he died on impact. everyone made up these bullshit stories about how he was such a good duy enen though he was a peice of shit. his girlfreind even said he was an ass. its people like that that dont need cars.
yes i do agree that people shouldnt race in the street but their going to and theres nothing we can do about it.
not trying to be an arse if im sounding like one.;)

Speaking from experience, I find it unfair for the other driver to be charged with vehicular homicide, he didn't make or force the other drivers to race him, it is just a way of the govt, trying to put their foot down unfairly. If I choose to drive fast, and some idiot starts following me, and he crashes in the midst of it, I think thats bullshit that I'm charged with it. If thats the case, then the next time I'm driving fast and I wreck my car, the guy who was ahead or behind me doing the same speed should be liable for my accident TOO. It is BULLSHIT Plain and simple.
I don't promote street racing, have I done it? YES, will I stop, I'm trying. I've always liked driving fast, and so many times I find idiots just like me following or trying to keep up, now I never asked them or put a gun to their head and asked them to race.
I saw the NEWS and thought is was sad, but I don't agree with the law on this one. The other driver should be or can be charged with street racing, speeding, public endangerment, wreckless driving, but vehicular homicide is BULL, unless he forced the other driver to loose control. They need someone to blame, and instead of blaming the idiot who died, they blame the other driver, and then say, they were all good boys and were coming out of bible study. Blame the dumb parents who went and gave 16 yr old boys a powerful cars, I got my first car when I was 18, and I had to work for it, when I bought my T-Ram, and then busted for speeding, my folks told me it is time to get rid of the car and I did. Now I'm a little older and just a turd bit wiser, I know that when I finish my project, I'll be going to the track. There is this kid who was 17 yrs and hes parents brought his 01 Mach 1 stang to the shop with only 8K miles, the rear tires were bald, and the clutch was rough, and the parents come and say the car was made poorly, and that it should be covered by waranty, what a load of crap.
Besides, how many ppl drive at 90mph in ATL, damn near everyone. Yesterday I was heading to an appointment with my Mom at Douglasville, I was at 90mph, and behind me was a lady with a 01 Lexus 470 doing the same speed, then came a Cadilac escalade who quickly accelerated and stayed behind us. for around 10-20miles, we were at 80-95mph. Now, if the lady in the Lexus Suv (with her daughter in it) lost control and crashed, you want to tell me it is my fault they were keeping up with my speed???????? I never wanted to race them, I wanted to get to the appointment quick, and go home early.

Im not trying to be an asshole but,
I dont think its street racing to blame... its just people that have no business trying to go over the speed limit trying to impress their friends. Ive seen people drive well over 150mph on the street and have no problems and Ive seen losers in Civics Stallown themselfs going 5mph in a parking lot.
I also like how on the News you see " Two Street racers were racing down main street then pulled in to a dennys to eat. When leaving the Dennys one backed into a 136 yr old lady's Cadilac the local police were quoted as saying "damn streetracer punks... when will they learn..."

Man this feels different when it's actually your friends. And the accord driver was their friend too. The guy I kow originally came with him, but switched into lexus on the way back. The lexus split in half and the engine was some how burning on my friend (his mom told mine). Parents are stupid too to give their kids fast cars, The kid is stupid to go over 130mph on a normal road on a heavy ass car that is not designed for racing, the drivers actually owns a civic, but wanted a lexus to go chill with his friends.

i see your point sho411 here in st.louis the same shit happens....speed limit says 60....fastlane is more like 85. Its BS, i love how i get pulled over just because i have a car that LOOKS like i cause trouble and race all the time...iv gotten 2 tickets in the last month for just keeping up with the traffic...GAY!!!!!
and i agree with r.w. 240 street racing is not to blame its dumbass fucks who to blame....when there is a street race here...we 1. block off all lanes on highway
2.RACE 3. go back to where everyone chills and collect your earnings or what not. We dont just go race on stoplight roads with a Dairy Queen and Quick Trip on the corner!!!!
what i dont seem to get is how did he lose control going in a straight line? hit a bump or some shit? This aint no top fuel dragster come on...you know the power didnt just "get away from him".

I do 100+ everyday and have been doing so since before I got my license. No wrecks, no tickets. As for what caused the wreck, well anything could have caused it. Some little dog could have wandered in the street and the kid tried and did avoid it causing him to wreck. Anything can happen. Street racing is not to blame. It is an inatimate phrase, how can it do anything? This is just why it should be done safely, orchestrated, and in rural areas. Organization is key. If you want to race someone, both of you should plan when and where to do it. You should bring along two extra people to start the race and declare the winner. And always do a drive through and look for driveways to watch and for the cops. Be safe and be smart. BTW, sorry to hear about that Pavlo.

I don't mind street racing, like chuki and nissanfanatic said, if it's organised, then fine. The only thing I hate is when bystanders get hurt, or even worst, killed. There was this guy in Montreal (where I live), he was going down the most crowded downtown street going like 158kmh, that's about 100mph I guess, anyways, on a 2 way, 2 lane each way street with plenty of traffic, anyways he ran a red light and hit a woman and her kid, killed them both, but he didn't even get hurt. He got like 5 years in jail or something, he should have been sentenced to death....well at least like 20-30 years. The point is, if you're going to go fast, there's a time and a place to do it and when there's others around, it's not the place or the time.

how do you block off all lanes on a highway? maybe ours are just busy but we could never do that. we just race on industry roads, no traffic after 9pm, long straight roads, no cops.

you block off the highway by rolling 30 cars deep, making a square around the two racing and slow down to about 20 then go. happens a lot where cars meet by me, at least once every week for a big race when someone challenges someone else. happened twice tonight (of course i stayed out of it this week, because hot import nights was in cleveland tonight and cops were EVERYWHERE).
most of these cars-cut-in-half accidents happen with 16 year olds doing 100mph+ in busy city traffic or winding streets. i see it a lot in the news about crashes. really stupid people. you lose control when you hit those high speeds in f'in 25mph speed zones, or if you are doing 150mph+ with light traffic on highway. either way you are pretty darn crazy if you're doing that shit.
i don't know how the driver of the honda would be charged with vehicular homicide. they should completely throw the book at him for wreckless op, drag racing, etc. but he didn't kill anyone, nor is he fully responsible. it takes two to race. he didn't cause the guy to die unless he swerved into the other car to make him crash (could have happened...). seems like they are trying to make a reason for it happening, and trying to blame something or someone when it really isn't there fault, just to please the families of those who got killed. i feel sorry for them, but the guy didn't kill them.
they should really show those gross dead people in their car wrecks in drivers ed more. when i see pictures of dead people in their car due to wrecks it scares me shitless.

man, just hearing about this shit makes me nervous.. i drove home from my gf's aunt's place today which is about a 7 hour drive normally, but took me just over 5.. did anywhere between 110 and 180, most people were doing 140.. after reading that article and what everybody else has posted, i feel like an idiot for driving so fast.. even if it isn't racing, you can still make mistakes anywhere else.. i mean, i don't think i was being reckless but i was going faster than everybody around me...
i guess it takes something like this to smarten people up, and i should know since i had good friends in a car that crashed, one of them dying.. and i hear about a bad accident every monday morning from somebody driving along the 401 and crashing into the rocks..
..makes you think

i dont think is the speed that causes the accidents its not knowing what to do if something goes weird when going fast, something like 85% or major accidents are cause buy a simple mistake or overcorrecting, as long as you have the experince, right car/parts, and commen sence needed to go fast then i think your fine but if you have no idea what your car even feels like when its out of control then you have no idea what to expect, and theirfore you crash. thats why i think its good to mess around in a big empty parking lot a few times a month.

Ya dieing is a shitty way to go. My cousin lost 3 friends in accident because they took a caution 35mph turn at about 120 was the estimate. they slid sideways into a tree compleely seperating into 2 right between the front and back seats killed everyone inside.(It was in a stock Mustang, topped out) Speed does not kill stupidity does and if He would have been alone I wouldn't have blinked an eye. It's like when drunk drivers hit a tree I couldn't care less, hit a power pole I feel sorry for the people who lose power, Hit a family hope they suffer before they die. just the way things are. Stupidity is the only thing dangerous I drove from Philly to Pensacola, I left at 10 am got here at 3 am. I avoid more accidents at 30mph then I ever have to at 90+. and that charge of manslature is total BS. Soon they will charge Bars for servering alcohol to someone who drives afterword.
and as for why race/speed. It is fun plain and simple. There is a risk when I had my miata it was mainly to me. But I'm not afraid of dieing, I'll just feel sorry for all the people who morn my death. the dead are the ones who get off light. When you're dead there's nothing to be sad about you're dead. These are just my beliefs if you find them offensive, it's a free country or atleast it use to be. but I will remove my post if you dont like it. so everyone go have fun responsibly. That means taking your own bullet if it comes down to it.

First off Pavlo, sorry for your loss, I was cught up in the report I over looked the details.
I've got to admit, I like speeding, I love to race, and not to act like an ass, I've always thought the best way out for me is at 200mph, thats been my dream if ever, not I want to die now, but if I was to ever to go, thats how. I've always been considered a safe driver even at high speeds, but even I know, driving at 130mph opposed to 60mph, the risk, the severity, the chance of error is far greater. We can't say anything of our driving as Logik said, it sucks when innocent drivers get killed, even well built race machines with x100,000 our buget fail, so anything can happen. But their is alos something called stupidity and no one said it better than MiataSpeed does not kill stupidity does
Now I've been on I-75 (6 lanes wide) doing 130mph, but it would be stupid of me to be in down town ATL doing even 80mph, with all the pot holes, lights, cross through traffic, and as you could see it wasn't on the hightway, that was a city street.
Sometimes though, bystanders deserve what they get, at NOPI, as guys peeled out, there were these little MOFO's kneeling right infront of the car trying to get all the action on their new cam coder. Now what happens if the driver who so happened to be some other idiot like yourself lost control? you just gonna end up being sanded down by the pavement. Common Sense is the KEY, no other way around that.

like you said yourself "If everything seems under control, you just are not going fast enough."
so thats exactly what was going on. After readin the story i realized that these guys are russians, me being a russian i know where these kids are coming from, Pavlo dont know if you are russian or anything, but im sure you agree with me on this when i say that most young russian teens love racing, honestly i think russian guys are more into racing on the streets than other guys... specially coming from church, the youth service is full of youngsters and they come out of church racing away... its just in our blood and we have to be more in control over outselves, and i honestly think think , at the youth services they should talk about not racing after church or in general, it will make a difference.
sorry this happened, but when its time to go for someone its time to go, lets just hope they are in heaven at this moment, and im not saying lets pray for them , because they are already dead and that wont do any good for them, so i just hope they lived a good enough life and going to church actually helped them out into living a life that God showed us to live. I hate seeing all these teens going to church just because and get nothing out of it, and they think going to church will actually get them to heaven...

I am Ukrainian and agree all my russian and ukrainian friends speed, drive recklessly and do crazy things in cars. Well my uncle and grandfather are like that (my dad used to until got in an accident). I don't go to church often but a few times went there to hang out wth all the young people, all of them speed and the church parking lot is like some car club, lots of fast cars. I just found out what happened by the way...they where going on a 45mph road, there was a bump on an intersection I think and they jumped up, when landed lost controll on high speeds and crashed. My friends dad was there said there big stains of blood all over the road, scary. Unfortunatly I will still drive recklessly, I also ride my bike all the time doing cool crap, once was going really fast something happened and I fell snapping my arm in two.., now I have big scars on my arm and titanium rods in both of the bones. Scars give me extra attention though from the ladies lol. Still speed and probably always will, guess i am just a dumbass that is hoping to die smoking an enzo or some other vintage car in his 240 :). Still prefer racing on a closed crcuit with a safe car though, not on a street (unless you just have to)

I saw this thing in the news about how in Russia, these guys go out and get piss drunk in a huge meet in a parking lot then give 300$ to a cop to keep an eye out for cops who aren't crooked (they don't by often) and then they race all night in plain site, in front of cops and everything.

I hate people who call freeway and stop light racing "street racing." It's not. Street racing is an organized event where 30-50 cars block off streets, and a few people race. There are rarely accidents. I have never seen a bad one, and I have only seen two. I have been real street racing for three years and had to quit because the bad publicity this safe alternative to track racing gets makes cops pull me over for being me. When cops come to break up street racing, thew danger starts, because everyone runs. If people would let us be we would have fun safe racing to participate in. Oh and the racing usually takes place on deserted roads. No innocent motorists ever get hurt. Stop light and freeway racing are stupid, and irresponsible. Only racing though, not going 90mph to get to an appointment. My friend raced a kid, and after he lost the kid driving the other car lost control and hit into a parked car and died. My friend stopped to try and help, but was cherged with racing, ehibition of speed, and vehicular manslaughter. So if he would have left the scene he would have been fine. But because he is a good person, he gets his life ruined. F*^k the police. Screw the law. The police only try to make money for the county they work for, they don't care about anyone. By the way, it was a stop light race, which was stupid on my friends part. Everyone controls their own actions. It's bullshit that people can blame others for their stupidity and the law supports this. Thankyou Democrats for your sue happy, and no one is responsible for themselves attitude. I hate to sound political, but all you car guys, and racing guys, had better be voting Republican. For us it's all that makes sense. All the shitty car rules are thanks to good ol Democrats.

street racing around here is hard to find.. it happens every night but the 50 or so cars that go split up into 7 or 8 packs and lose anybody thats following to watch later on.. i tried it before i had my 240 and if you don't have a car that can potentially race, you won't find out where they're going.. and by 1am, everybody knows where to meet and they all go. usually its about 20 mins south of town where nobody will hear or be bothered by them. they do it the right way. they don't need to block much off cause there's nothing TO block off. the roads are straight and wide open. the city driving becomes dangerous around here when people are trying to lose other people, and it in turn becomes a race to nowhere. i've heard of people being hit by these cars.. its the people with cars that can't handle whats being thrown at them combined with the lack of experience. there are lots of ricers around here that drive ridiculously fast for the attention but their cars are actually really shitty. this usually gets them in trouble and has potential to hurt other people.

First off, at 90mph, I was going to an apointment with my folk, secondly, the car I was in is capable but not safe at speeds over 90 if I have a pasenger and with the amt of cars on the road. Now if I was alone, had my T-ram or when I finish my project, I would be back at my old tricks, just alot less, I've always enjoyed driving fast whether there is some idiot trying to keep up or not, I like to speed.
Street racing is "STREET RACING", there you go trying to come up with your own meaning of something that has been there before you were born. Street racing is racing done on the freaking street, if it is a sanctioned event in a sanctioned location or track, guess what, IT AINT STREET RACING.
Street Racing is STUPID, so if you do it, YOU ARE A FOOL, with that said, most things we like to do are stupid, crazy, unsafe etc, and that all is part of being a human. Sleeping with ppl you don't know, gambling, racing, rock climbing, Orgys, talking shit, risky stunts, thats how we were made.
Though I do ask that if you are going to do it, please avoid hitting the mini van with the housewife and three kids coming from soccer practice, I almost lost control and would have slamed into someone, I swerved and went into the ditch intead, I would rather go out my self than take anyone with me cuz of my stupidity, but if you try to rob me, I will be more than willing to introduce you the master of disguise. Should be able to tell with those horns sticking out of his head and the burning souls in his eyes. If you can go into the wall other than the car at the light just cuz you got a better chance of living if you hit them than the pole, lets all be responsible, if you race, lets atleast die or get injured responsibly.

Actually the term "street racing" has been a more recent developement then you know. "Red-light," or "stop-light" racing, has been a term used from the early 60's, whereas the term "street racing" had been brought out in the early 90's, during the start of the street racing scene. The words "street racing" meant an event like what used to take place in Ontario. Many people meet and then drive to a deserted area, block off streets, and drag race. This was what the term "street racing" was meant to mean. Through the press the meaning to most people has changed. The press abused the meaning by calling "stop-light" racing, "street racing" instead. They ascociated this with deaths and terrible accidents, giving "street racing" a bad name. Usually before you start talking crap you should know your shit. I hate cops. I hate ignorant stupid people.

This is just to prove that stupidy kills. and I agree with street racing being semi orginized it's not red light challenges. they are 2 different things. and ya SHO and I are on the same page Dieing is fine just do it the right way. "with your boots on" I don't want to be 94 years old bed ridden. "everyone dies not everyone truely lives". "Live everyday like it is your last, someday it will be". just some quote about life and death.

I totally agree with dieing young. I figure the day I can't run, is the day I go. Hopefully it's in a racing accident. And to the post 2 above this, yes it's kinda like fast & furious except for the 4 cars racing at once, all the extremely nice cars, the girls spraying paint accross the road, and the race that lasted 10 miles. You usually get about 1/8 mile. The winner is whoever is pulling on the other towards the end and signalled by emergency flashers. Cars just line up behind the 2 racers and get flagged as soon as the race ahead of them is over. But when cops come it's just like the fast & furious. Everyone bolts to there cars and all hell breaks loose. It's actually pretty fun though. My car always got lucky and got away.

yeah, we don't line up as nicely as fast&furious, its more like people park so they can see whats goin on, and its never 1/4 mile, its different every time cause nobody measures and like s13wannabe said, there's nobody painting shit on the road, normally you'll have input from many people if the race is close.. it never goes past where the last person is parked but is usually determined long before that.. and police break-ups?? i haven't seen them around here much.. but i have seen one when 6 unmarked impalas pulled up and caught everybody with their pants down.. not too many got caught but my buddy did with his acura EL with an h22 turbo.. he had to make it legal within a couple of weeks to avoid more serious fines than what he alreay got..
long story short, our races are out of town where its dark and nobody's around, where its safe. the accidents happen in the city when somebody thinks they're king shit and tries to show off to somebody else, which in turn becomes red-light-racing.. which is stupid

There is a big difference between drag racing and street racing.
A drag race should end when a car is beaten off the line or at least withing 20mph of the speed limit.
A street race is insanity....I have seen these at 100mph+ down a 25mph residential area with one guy in the oncoming lane.
I have given up drag racing on the street as everyone wants to show you how fast they can go once you have beaten them.

dude, this thread is a month old. Anyways, what about speeding? I tend to drive fast sometimes, but if someone dies by going fast what is that considered? By the way, you feel different after youve crashed so many times, Im not proud to say that ive crashed like about 5 times, but, now i know the consequences and how it feels, not nice but i surprise my self on knowing that the 240 can withstand some types of crashes, yesterday i crashed again, i kissed the rail going 90 mph because i didnt want to hit a dog crossing the freeway, when you think that u can control ur car, you just cant do it. I tried but at the end my car slid into the rail, nothing major happened, just the paint job got scracthed an the front of the
fender got dented ( nothing mayor.... just a little scratch......i can fix it......controll urself johnny...............DAMN I HATE THAT DOG, next time ill go for road kill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
