ok I just bought a 1992 vr4 for $3500  .
It's all downhill from there, when i turned it on i hear a loud noise coming from the bottom end (crankshaft). So a few days later i poped off the oil pan and found three bearing from the cranckshaft sitting right under the oil strainer... now im taking out the cranckshaft and sending it to a machine shop.

Well I guess congrats and sorry to hear that are both in order. Welcome to AF.
Unfortunantly, this is problem that occurs every so often on the 91 and 92 vr4s. In 93 they replaced the original cast iron or mild steel crankshafts with forged nitrided-steel crankshafts that were much stronger. Rather than fixing this one, you may want to invest in putting in a newer forged one.

And another reason that happend is the previouse owner ran it low on oil. It was like half empty when I drained it. Same with the coolent. And to top that off he sad he ran it up to 130mph. While i was taking off the oil pan i noticed that there where only 3 bolts on it, the sealent was keeping it from coming off. One of the oil return lines had half a gasket on it.

Wow that does suck, I hate when people don't take care of thier cars and run them to death. I don't know about the cost of the new cs, lemme do some searching.

Damn bro, sorry to hear about that....I don't even know if I should say "congrats" on the car or not. ;o/ But yeah, I don't understand why people neglect to take care of their cars...man, I'd kick myself if I ever did anything to mess my babie up. :(

They were in the 93 and up stock, but as far as I know, they are a drop in replacment that would work just fine. Call 3sx and ask if it will work in your car...I am under the impression that it will, but doublecheck with them for sure(they will definantly know).

Exact same block, any crank for it should fit perfectly. Especially if they just changed what it was made of. :2cents:

The block was ruined? I could understand internals being screwed up, but it takes alot to mess up these blocks....

Well it was ruined enough to where it couldnt hold the bearings. :(

Well the previouse owner drove it at 130 mph with very very low oil. and low coolant. And it had a bad noise coming from the bottom end and he still drove it the next day. Will that mess up the block? :dunno:

why would you buy a car from someone who treated it like shit?
I have a 92 VR4, owned by some rich family. Bought it on 2/19/04. Has only been in the shop 1 time, and that was to get new brakes (of course they will wear out eventually)
Best investment I've ever made.

lol milage is just a general indicaitor, oil and coolant are nesisary for any engine to continue running even one with low milage. Usually when it comes to cars if it looks too good to be true it is... and it'll sound like it's on it's last legs, I say new motor!
