95 Lumina APV engine miss

My 95 lumina has developed a serious engine miss. Don't notice it to much when you accelerate really hard, but it drinks fuel like a college kids do beer.!! Plugs, wires have been changed. Plugs all looked good. No fouling on a any of them. Nothing on the dash indicates anything is wrong. Got a new fuel filter for it, but have no idea where the heck it's even located. So if anyone has any ideas on what else to look into, and where in heavens name the fuel fillter is, I would like to hear from you.
Thanks
Elmer

The fuel filter is up under it, back by the fuel tank most likely. If you have a hard misfire with no code set, I would wonder if it is injector related rather than ignition, the ECM will usually see an ingnition miss if it happens repeatedly and set a code. You are saying it overcomes it when you give it throttle?

Yes Jeff, when I put the hammer on the floor, it takes off with very little missing or hesitating. But when I am accelerating normal, (leaving light, ect), it acts like it's going to die. It catches itself, spits, sputters, and will go. As my post said, I have not encountered any errors on the dash display. I have unhooked the battery and left it off for a half hour, then tried it again, but the results are the same. ( a guy once told me by unhooking battery, it could reset a "SOFT FAULT") It's a nice outfit, but there is no way I can afford to take it it. So tried plugs/wires, and thought maybe fuel filter. But, if fuel filter, it shouldn't be consuming fuel at it's current rate. Less than 5mpg. Anything you could suggest would be appreciated. The days when I turned a wrench on my old rods, we had nothing like this. Fire or fuel.....if you had them, then it was more serious. Now days, a simple sensor can take you down. Give me back the old days of big blocks, dual point ignition, and high octane fuel. I can make them run.

Yeah, I'm with you there. Now with the extra info, I'd be wondering about the throttle position sensor, or the fuel pressure regulator. Check for vacuum at the line to the regulator, and make sure it is connected. I'd think if it was dumping fuel that hard, the ECM would pick it up as an O2 sensor rich fault, unless it has already ruined the sensors with fuel residue. You getting any soot from the exhaust when you take off? Does it do it consistantly, and is it any better or worse as it warms up?

Have the coil packs and ignition module tested. Also may want to replace the o2 sensor. O2 sensors kinda iffy, id get the coil packs checked first.

Yeah, I'm kinda at a loss on this one, but figuring if it managed to pass that much fuel through the exhaust, without actually using it efficiently, the O2 sensor and cat has got to be a mess, regardless of what else is wrong.
