Extended Warranty

When buying a used BMW, from a private seller, is it possible to buy an extended warranty thru BMW?

Besides the engine size, are there any 'big' differences between the 528i and the 530i?

I have noticed that the 525 is available in '01, but not '02 (I think I have the years correct), why the change from 528/530 to 525?

Thanks,

Hi Propstopped:

So you are interested in a preowned BMW, good choice! Now concerning the extended warranty, now as far as I know, BMW does no offer an extended warranty plan, yet, (but I wish they did!).

I believe that the 530i took the place of the 528i, but the 525i is still here with us, and the 525i are fine dependable cars, but have a smaller engine (2.5, 184hp), than the 530i with the 225hp 3.0.

I was going to buy a 04 525i until I test drove the 04 530i, and WOW what a difference in power! To me, it is worth the extra money!

I purchased an 04 530i this year. and I purchase a third party extended warranty that is honored and accepted by my BMW dealer. I bought the 7yr, 100,000miles plan for $2,500.00. Even though BMW does not have an extended warranty, but my BMW dealer was acting unofficially as their agent and was asking: $3900.00 + TAX for it, until I negotiated a better price with my BMW dealer. :grinno:

In my www research, I found there are several good extended warranty companies out there, but just make sure your BMW dealer honors them before you buy, because many are a hassle for BMW dealers to contend with because they have to wait for their money when they compete a BMW repair job.

But there is one extended warranty company I know of by the named of: "Warranty Direct" that my BMW dealer and other BMW dealers here in the Atlanta area and most all USA wil honor, because after following the proper repair estimate procedures protocol and the reopair order is summitted to Warranty Direct, within 24hrs or less, I am told they pay BMW dealers and their Mechanics ASAP no questions asked, and pay them by credit card number over the phone line, (No checks to have to wait by US snail mail! :banghead: )

Now also if you buy a used BMW I believe they do cover preowned BMW's, but you better call Warranty Direct and check with them first at: 1-(800) 632-4222 and make sure. Their website is: https://www.warrantydirect.com/warrantydirect/WQuotestep1.asp?URL=google4 (https://www.warrantydirect.com/warrantydirect/WQuotestep1.asp?URL=google4)

I wish you the best in you preowned BMW hunt! There is nothing like a Bimmer!

Sincerely,

Presley348 :smokin:

Presley348,

Thanks for the info, I will definitely look into warranty direct. I am looking at the '01 525/530's, but have yet to drive one. Have driven the M3...but its too small for my kids. M5 maybe? A few more years for that.

I appreciate your time in replying.
Thank you,

Propstopped
