My check engine light came on and I took it to autozone to have them check for engine codes. They could not tell me anything else other than it was P0101 MAF Sensor Performance. Where can this sensor be found and how do I change it myself. I cant find a Haynes manual for the Aurora and I dont want to pay a mechanic if possible. Any help would be appreciated Thanks Alot!!!

There is no Chiltons/Haynes/ect. The only help is the factory service manuals. You can check ebay for them, or factoryautomanuals.com has 4 sets for the 97s at $75 for the two book set.

Or maybe someone with a set will be really really nice and tell you what you need to know. I've got a 95 and I'm at work to boot, so I'm or limited help at the moment.

On my 1996 Aurora
The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is located between the throttle body and the air snorkel (the air snorkel leads to the air filter box)

1. Take of the Intake Air duct.
2. Disconnect the MAP sensor electrical connector.
3. Take out the MAP sensor mounting screws (3)
4. Note air cleaner assembly and the MAF sensor inlet duct position (they must line up when the new sensor is installed)
5. Take of the MAP sensor.

Installation opposite

Be careful not to damage the MAF sensor housing screen
Tighten the Intake Air duct screw clamp to 27 lb in
Tighten the MAF sensor assembly screws to 71 lb in

Thank you, I will try that, Autozone seems to be the cheapest at 106.99 plus 40 core fee. Im glad i can change it myself, dealer would charge a fortune. This may be the reason I am getting horrid gas mileage, only 10 in town. Thanks for your help, the Aurora shall live on!!!!!!

is this code the only code coming up cause no matter what goes wrong with your car and what codes come up the po101 always comes up. every time i throw a code that code comes up with other codes. I'd check your egr first

thanks, but this code is the only code and it comes up twice. If it was to be the egr valve would it trigger the check engine light, and if so how would I know if it was the egr does it have a code it should be giving?

the 101 code is set when there is a restriction in the air inlet. If you change the MAF sensor and the code persists then Take a close look at your inlet tube. You may find that the inside plastic non crush tube at the 90 degree turn has become turned and is blocking the air supply. I spent months checking the 101 code and changed lots of sensors before I discovered it was this problem.
