what do the cops do...

...if you call in a license plate number and say that the person cut you and at least 4 other people off without ever signaling, was going about 75 in a 55 in heavy traffic, was weaving through traffic, and was tailgating? (Read my post "idiot in a lexus" in the stress release forum...) Would they actually do something about it? I mean, like the cops from rich-ville that have nothing better to do...

no, i called the cops WHILE a guy was swerving at me and threatening to run me off the road. i got the license plate number and called it in. about 15 minutes later the cop met up with me, the other guy was long gone by then. He told me there was nothing he could really do cause he didnt see it happening. complete bullshit

what if you followed the guy and kept them updated on where he was? or told them you thought he might be drunk? They'd go after 'em if they thought they might be drunk...
oh, and video cameras are very helpful in situations like yours :p

Honestly is better to let it go. You never know if that guys is a armed psycho, so its just not worth the risk.
And even then is your word against his.

It depends on the cops.
Iv been literaly run off the road and quickly reported it.
The cop I filed the comlaint with traced the rego, found the driver and called me less than 24hrs later to say he had fined them for dangerous driving.
Its also not uncommon here for the cops to ask you to follow someone (safely of course) acting dangerously untill they are able to get there.
However Iv called in dangerous drivers before and heard absolutly nothing back.
Iv even called in debri on the motorway and its still been there several hours later, still causing an obstrcution.
If the cops have the time and resouces generaly I think they will respond, but remember they are often dealing with more important things.

Also, who's to say that you aren't just making it up? Or maybe you have a grudge against someone and are just trying to get back at them for something? I'm not saying that's what happened in your case, you just have to look at it from the cops point of view too. Not to mention, with the way people drive nowadays, there simply aren't enough cops to respond to every call that comes in regarding someone driving recklessly. It sucks, but imo, just let them drive on ahead. With any luck they'll wreck themselves or hit someone else. At least you'd still be able to be a witness to their reckless driving.

In Honolulu, if you make a report like that, the cops will ask what the driver looked like as well as the vehicle description. Then they go to the registered owner's address and "counsel" the driver. A record of it is kept, and hopefully they find out the plates or expired or something. They are polite about it, but they take no crap either.

They don't see drug dealers, or young kids actually drinking but they do something about that, don't they?

Report that the Lexus was holding up the line at the Dunkin' Donuts Drive-Thru. Then you might get some results...

are you serious??? those compared to driving are not similar at all. you can catch someone drinking by giving them a breathalizer. For drug dealers how are they going to catch them if they dont see them dealing drugs to people? Funny how the cop told me flat out "there is nothing i can do because i didnt see it"
Drug dealing, underage drinking, and wreckless driving......how are those 3 in the same group at all????? not even close

and i doubt that the cops went to the guys house and then he just took off. They probably went to the area and SAW the guy driving like a moron, tried to pull him over and he took off. Otherwise there is no proof he was doing anything,

I've seen police in Anaheim, California do absolutely nothing with red light runners, rolling right turns at stop signs and two times when a patrol car was sitting at the cross walk and a car blows right through the red light when everyone else was stopped. He must have been late for the fresh batch of donuts. Don't even get me started about La Habra, California police!
