Hi Guys. This is my first post on this site. It seems that there is a vast emount of knowledge on this site and I think im going to need it becasue Im stumped.

Ive got a 1986 Camaro Z28 Body. My drivetrain is a 355 heavily modified motor. Attached to it ive got a T10 Fine spline tranny and a lakewood bellhousing mating them together.

Heres the problem my clutch pedel always gets mushy and notchy no matter what ive done. At first I thought it was heat so ive completely isolated the clutch line, Ran a protective hose over it and wrapped the headers and any exhaust components that get close. It helped but didnt fix it the pedel was still crappy and notchy. THen I pulled the tranny, put in a centerforce clutch and replaced the master and slave. Pedel was great for about 2hours of driving but it returned and only seems to be getting worse again. The only real sign of improvment is that before i isolated it from the heat it used to leak fluid thru the primary, But ever since i isolated it the new primary does not leak. But the pedel is still garbage.

I dont know what is causing it. Bleeding somtimes helps the problem but only temporarly. Sometimes i think that after mashing the gas well driving it helps the pedel. But that may just be my imagination.

Im using a stock Primary and Slave becasue there the only ones I know that fit. Im also using a stock clutch fork and a stock fork ball.

One thing that might help you guys out is that this car used to be a automatic which i changed over to a manual. TO get the primary thru the firewall wasnt easy and im still not sure if the push rod is going straite in and out. Can a push rod that doesnt go perfectly straite in cause this notchy feeling.

I hope someone can help me out, It really takes the fun out of driving and it feels like somthings about to go.

Thanks a lot guys.
Martin.

Yup it sure can , You may want to check the push rod and make sure it isn't bent anymore than originally placed in. I had a similar problem on my S-10 and it ended up being that the slave piston couldn't push the fork because the throw out bearing was binding up. THis was after I put a 4.3 in a 2.8 original. Might want to pull the inspection plate and check for shraps and maybe inspect the throw out bearing. If not that , Welp..I dunno..Hope this can help and if not , SOme one else can =D

Thanks a lot.

Ill give that a try, However im pretty sure its a hydrolic problem.

However it it Is a throwout bearing binding, how would I go about getting it to not bind.

Thanks.

are you still using your stock master cylinder and a aftermarket slave cylinder? The master cylinders and slave cylinders are matched to size.

Yeah, Its a stock slave and a stock master.

It maybe hydraulic but I worked on my friend's Jeep Wrangler and his clutch pedal always felt shitty, really felt like something hydraulic was bad. So we did a clutch job, put in a new slave and master set-up, all new lines for the things etc.., Felt good for a few weeks and then went back to being shitty.

Come to find out the input shaft bearing inside his tranny was junk and the shaft would start to wiggle around and cause the throw out bearing to bind and do all sorts of things that made it feel like the hydraulics was messed up. Just another suggestion for something to look at.

GTStang, Your post seems to share some simular qualities to my situation.

However my clutch pedel seems to go from good to shity very shortly after it was just fixed.

My tranny has been rebuilt, I have a new pilot bushing , and new master and slave and of course a new throwout bearing and it feels exactly the same as it did before I changed everything.

I DONT GET IT.

But thanks for your help.
