I went to a custom muffler shop today and asked about changing my mufflers on my 2000 MC SS. When he looked underneath he said that it would not be a good idea as I would not get the sound I'm looking for. I read somewhere that someone put FlowMaster 40s on and it sounded good. I think it might sound like a Pontiac with that horrible noise. The muffler man said that the mufflers were to close to the end with no tailpipe, that is why it would sound crappy. He said I would not be happy and he wouldn't either. I guess he doesn't want his rep tarnished. He just put duals on my Amigo and he did a great job. Anyway, he said he would put them on and then take them off if I did not like the sound. Anybody have FlowMasters on or any other after market exhayst on? He also said to completely forget about Borla. He suggested to put a single muffler somewhere in the middle of the car and that would give me a longer tailpipe which would result in a much deeper V8 sound I'm looking for. Any suggestions? Thanx

Yeah that was me that said I put 40 series Flowmasters on my car. Take that 3 ft. long pipe off and replace it w/ a straight pipe and replace the stock mufflers/tips. You won't be disappointed. I don't know what your guy's talking about but I know mine sounds good. I had a 93 z34 lumina and had them on it. That's why I stuck w/ em. I had dual resonating tips on that and it was louder than my monte. Not by much though. Now I have more of a mellow rumble. Like I said, you'd only really notice if you rode in both cars for a long time and compared. Get those 40's w/ resonating tips and I'd almost guarantee you won't be sorry. If you're looking for even more, get custom headers, but it's not worth my time and money right now. Found the mufflers on ebay for 53 each, tips were 8 each (resonating will cost you more), and labor was 80. Good luck.

Thanx MC2001. I'll print your reply out and see what he says. I thought that it would give me a deep tone but he has been doing this for upteen years. I already took the resonator off which gave me a slightly deeper rumble, but of course I want more. thanx again.

did removing the resonator affect your check engine light? I have a hole in mine, my check engine light came on, so I am assuming thats why(since it was the same time). I wanna remove the resonator and run flowmaster 40's since I keep hearing bout them. I have an 02 ss. Not crazy into mods but def want a throughtier, tougher sound. But I dont want my gas to be greatly altered. But mostly worried the check engine light will come on from removing it. Any help?
