Jackstands

I just bought a hydraulic jack and some jackstands. I need to know where to place the jack and then the jackstands when raising the rear of the truck. I am taking the gas tank off and need more room.
Is it ok to support the rear axles on the jackstands?
Thanks
I want to be 100% sure before I crawl under a vehicle that has less ground clearance than the my head.

The best place to jack the truck is the rear end (usually on the pumpkin... Big round part in the middle) and the best place for the jack stands is under the axles.
Always try shaking the truck before you remove the tires, then look to see if the Jack stands are still completely on the ground, and the axles are where they were before.
It's safe putting the jack, or jack stands under the frame too, but be carefull with Unibody cars, and look in their owners manuals first
