Anybody know the location of the crank sensor on a 2.8? Times like this make me wish I'd went to school for auto mechanics instead of auto body repair. Thanks

1985 pontiac firebird se. Engine won't start. Starter rotates but I'm not getting a spark to the coil. Replaced the distributor cap, ignition module, coil, plugs, wires, and swapped ecm. Very strange. It may crank right now, but not in five minutes. Never dies once it does crank. Very puzzling.

The 2.8 has a CPS just not sure where it is located. I had mine repaired at a shop. The book I have indicates it is located on the side of the block. It does not say which side but you should be able to find it by following the wire from the ignition module/coils down the side of the block.

Thanks for the help. I'll see if I can locate it. Did you have similar symptoms?

Easy - Pick up coil - Maybe..
The 1985 2.8 V-6 does NOT have a cps (Crank Position sensor)
Does the DISTRIBUTOR have and coil in the cap or is it external ?
FI correct ?
You could throw a 1000$ worth the parts at it and not have it fixed.
You should really start with a good manual instead of what people tell you it might be. Could be as simple as a bad 12V+ wire to the distributor.
I know the temptation is great to start and replace evrything(I've done it), but it's not real smart $$ wise.

multi port fuel injection. External coil. No service codes. Had the ecm from another 85 2.8 I picked up for the interior and spare body parts.
