I have 2 identicall amps and 2 10' Subs but I need some good Idead of how to install it all. I dont want to buy a sub box..I want to build one in the trunk. but I dont want to lose to much space.....any help would be awesome!!

first of all you drive a CRX, so you don't have any space to lose anyway.... But i put my 2x12" in a box, and put them in the very back.

My amp just sits on top of the little storage compartment thing behind the seats, i don't use it for anything so I don't need to open it...

I will try to get a picture when I get off of work.

i too ahve my amps installed above the cargo thingy behind the seats, and my subs are in a box just behind the vertical divider.

I don't know how large your amps are, but I put my amp underneath the drivers seat, and then ran wires back to the subs and rear deck. (I drive the sedan, if you couldn't tell from my sig)

Well here is the Pict of the AMPS...I got 2 of these for $60 I'm not much of an Audiophile...they are two big for under the seat and i dont want them to be visable to the public...someo could break my windows to take them...and they are to big for the little carrige in the back..

I was thinking of building this cool box integrated in the back but they told me you have to build boxes a ceartian way...Aparently these is a science to building sub boxes!!!

Here is how I have mine set up, please excuse the wire mess, it is a work in progress right now, I have to wait for my kick panels to come in to set my highs amp up, so I have'nt cleaned everything up yet. And those crappy sony's are getting replaced also with Memphis' to go with the amps.

Ohhh wow that is nice!!!!! I like that!!! Hey Quix..I hope you dont mind me using your idea I'll make sure you get the props wen people ask me. I have another question. This is what I have. I have thouse two amps I have 2 10' subs I have 5 1/4 " Poineers for the fronts pods and I have 6x9's for the rear pods. What is a Cross-over and do I need it??? How many???

The only reason I'm using my cross-overs is because I have component speakers meaning the woofer and the tweeter are separate, so basically the crossovers keeps the bass out of the tweeter and the highs out of the woofer. It separates the frequencies going to each speaker. If you have 2-way or 3-way speakers, you probably won't need them. Especially if you are going to be using subs. Make sure you have a deck with sub-control (where you can adjust the volume of the subs separately)

BTW I posted the pic in hopes that you would like the idea, so do that shit and I wanna see it when your done!

I have my box facing the back like quixilver (2 10s). The amp sits right on top (good cooling). I've been thinking about redoing my set up for a long time cuz it moves around a lot even though I got bungee cords holding it all in place. The spare tire cover is shorter (cuz it melted a little) so that moves too. There is a flat piece of masonite here at work I'm thinking about yanking cuz it's been sitting there forever anyway. Anyway, I have a rear strut tower brace so I have less options/space. Do you think if I made a box the size of truck box type enclosure (flat) I would compromise my bass? I have a Lanzar Vibe amp and the crossover is always set for all bass...

I used an amplified 8 inch RS Bazooka mounted against the rear divider wall, firing sideways. This provided the most accurated bass. I then used a small two channel amp to run my front speakers and since noone is sitting in the rear, I used the radio itself to power the rear speakers. It's a nice balanced system that can actually get loud. It's not a one note bass machine, rather a balanced hear everything system.

If you were going to buy the box, it won't matter how big it is, as long as you have enough "air space" for the type of speakers you have. If you can find some where on the internet or if you still have the specs of the speakers, look at how much air space is needed. For 10's maybe .8 cu. ft.? Buy or make a box with enough air space according to your speakers.

I have 2 2x4's under my box bolted to my frame, and then I have 4 metal "L" brackets that are screwed into the 2x4's. My system doesn't go ANYWHERE.

yeah, the L brackets sound like a nice idea. My box is the old lanzar vibe bandpass (very small)... probably the lightest manufactured enclosure so I just can't see spending money on a new box, but I really wouldn't mind trying to make something... small and flat so the speakers face upward. My old 944 had a custom flat rectangular box to compensate for the lack of trunk space... made the crx look huge in comparison... but I still had the problem with where to put the amp. I know if I redo my system I'll have the same problem.

Turtle... I saw this setup the other day.. What you'll need to do is find someone to weld you some tubing together (1"or 2") into a bracket that mounts to your box, and extends upwards. Then, you weld some more tubing to make it "L" shaped (Like its sticking out towards you in the picture) to hold the amp. You can angle it if you like. I believe it's the "floating" amp technique.

The speakers facing up?

Figori
10-08-2004, 02:54 PM
Yeah, he said he wanted them facing up. You can do it with a regular box as well. It really doesn't matter.

quiXilver

I think that would like rattle the amps too much, or not give a smooth sound 'cause it's facing a surface less than a foot away..but he could try it

turtlecrxsi

Yeah, I'd rather not "float" my amp. As far as the speakers facing up, yup that's what I may want to do. Thanks for the ideas...

The amplified Bazooka Tube sounding idea good yet? Light weight, small amount of install space required, and ultra efficient.

See thats what I wanted to do originally was build something that's not exactly a big box that is going to take up all the space in my trunk. I'm still working on a design...

You know that if you face your speakers the oppisite way you get more kick!...I tried them install normally on a box and it sounded good, when I flipped them (with the magnet thing pointing out) they kicked way harder!!!!
