help with a 1982 celica.

my dad is giving me his old celica 1982. im not really happy cuz it kinda sucks. its decent tho. the engine is good still, the exterior and interior are in good condition. the one thing i hate about the car is that its max speed rite now is 85mph. wat can i do to improve this car?

Make sure it's got fresh plugs, air filter, PCV valve, new oil and transmission fluid. Put some Chevron Techron additive in a tank of gasoline. Clean the throttle body.

For additional money, get the valves adjusted.

yea, valve adjustments help a lot, at least for me it did. And you don't need to take it anywhere, you can do it as long as you have a putty knife, some wrenches, and a Feeler gauge. Real easy on the 22R/E

make sure when you do a valve adjustment to get the sequence cause you can seriously screw up the head if not!!! i believe the intake is at top dead and the exhaust is bottom dead center, but defintly ask first

oops, yea get a haynse or chiltons manual. I hear chiltons better but the haynse works for me. I used the haynse to figure out the positions.

Another way to increase your top speed, that not too many people think of, is you can reset the gear ratios in your tranny... it takes a while to do tho, and i hope you have access to a lift other wise its a pain in the ass to get the tranny outta there...
