echo vs rx-7

So some buddies and I were working out at the gym when 2 of my buddy's friends come in and start to work out with us. Now.. me and my other friend know these guys but don't very well like them. When we leave the gym, we all walk towards our cars. As we are all getting in, one of the guys I don't like says "my car would destroy yours." Now, being a guy that doesn't like hearing that, I decided he should put his motor where his mouth is. He drives a late 80s RX-7 N/A. I drive an 04 Echo Hatchback. So we drove around trying to find a good, quiet spot to race. Eventually we line up and his friend flags us. He got me off the start because echos come with the worlds worst tires in stock form, and also he was RWD. So I floor it to about 5500 rpm and get a nice chirp into 2nd. Take 2nd up to 108km/h and take 3rd up to 130ish. Then I decided I had beat him bad enough so I slowed down. He was ahead of me from the start, but I pulled a good 3-5 car lengths on him by the end.
So he pulls a u-turn to meet up with our friends that were at the start line. He gets out and asks them, "who won?" All my friends said, "are you serious? he won." I thought it was fairly obvious who won.. considering when I was a couple car lengths ahead of him I signalled and switched lanes ahead of him. By the time I got back to where my friends were, he had already left with his friend so I didn't get a chance to gloat :(. Anyways.. that was a long story and pretty uneventful, not to mention all stuffed into one paragraph. Have fun reading ;).

Good race, just makes me afraid to race anything now in my rx7 if I can ever get it running. Kinda sad that that guy owns a 7 cause most rx7 owners I've met and talked to are normally pretty nice. Btw have you ever had the echo at the track?

This guy doesn't deserve a hyundai pony, let alone an rx-7. I haven't been to the track yet. Once I get some worthy performance mods i'll have a go at it though.

lol good point. If I were you after the upgrades I would have to take it back to him and see if hes up for another go and truely make him eat his words (still kills me that he owns that car!!) What type of mods are you planning on adding?

haha, that would be fun ;). I really need some 15" or maybe 16" light weight rims with some sticky rubber. My tires are awful, I actually can't take off even slightly quick unless I want to spin my tires forever. Eventually when I save up enough money i'll buy either a Blitz Supercharger or a TTE Supercharger.

ummm....rwd isn't an advantage to beating you off the launch....even if you have bad tires if he spun his at all you probably should've beat him off the launch...

Yes RWD is a huge advantage over FWD while launching, its simple physics.

Wow...I thought echos ran like, a thirty second 0-60, and a minute and a half 1/4 (they really dont look all that fast or anything, and well...its is an echo...lol)

Echo sedans look ridiculous. Echo hatchbacks look a bit sportier in my opinion.

An echo is the only thing you'll hear in an echo, because the other car you're racing will be so far ahead.....

vettethug just bugs me, once again you show your ignorance. RWD has a huge advantage over FWD from a dig, reason being when a car accelerates where does all the weight go? uhh uhh uhh. . . to the back tires! So the back tires will have more traction when accelerating than the front tires do. Thats the reason really fast drag cars can lift the front of the car off the ground, RWD. . .

anways good race, but i have no clue what the stats are on an echo, like Engine power and such. Wanna enlighten me?

btw the echo runs a quarter mile time of 16.67 and a 0-60 time of 8.6...a 1989 RX7 runs a 16.5 and a 0-60 of 8.4.....hmmm no wonder the race was so close...good kill

It was pretty much a driver's race i guess. rx7 has the edge though.

What I meant was, the Hyundai Pony is a lesser car compared to the RX-7. Most people would agree with me on that. I'm saying he doesn't deserve either of them. Sorry if I offended you and your car brand, but it is my opinion that an RX-7 is better than a Pony.

The Devilles can actually move thanks to their torque. (well depending on year)
I actually drive one, a '79... granted it does maybe a 18 second quarter at best but.... it gets to 10 mp/h pretty quick :P

its the better driver in a race...that guy in the RX-7 must suck at racing or driving...lol
