Dealer would be a decent place, you can get one from autozone, gunna be pricey.

why don't you rebuilt it( or get it done?)? i hear it's quite simple... the bearings in it are very common ,(6205 if i'm correct) if i believe my neighbor who has a bonneville SSEi and an ol' chevelle SS with a 396 which he drags with.. he also does repairs on car in his garage..he ain't no master mecanic but i asked about it and told me it's rather easy to do. he did his a few months ago.

i know i'm gonna try when my bearings go if you ain't a wrench jedi like i am find someone who can do it..

just don't change the whol SC because of a bad bearing :)

I agree with deadring, but it can get technical for a novice owner. But a rebiuld would be cheaper!

Have a look at www.pse.us for lifetime warranty rebuilts. Actually with only 40K miles I'd be surprised if your diagnosis is accurate. It's common for the eaton units to go well over 100K before giving any problems. Be careful in listening to where the noise is coming from. What sounds like a SC on first listen can be a belt tensioner or water pump, either of which are much less costly to repair/replace.

Amen. I brought my 95 PA with a SC to the dealer and was told that it would cost $2700 to repalce. I bought a new SC and had a friend put it on. Still had the grinding noise. I found out after spending 800 bucks on a part that it was a 200 dollar pully down at the bottow of the engine. Live and learn. What really pissed me of was the dealer that made the bad diagnosis. Wonder what they would have done if I had spent that much money and still had the noise.

Well, with an extra you can always advertise it at ebay, and recoup some of the money.

ironically, your gonna sell it and the old one will start making noise in the next 20 000 miles...thats murphy's law..my life is based on it.. i could tell you how i blew a snowmobile engine with a roll of teflon tape.. but i won't lolol

i'd keep it as a spare.. but 800 dolars is alot of money...

what i should do is buy an old one and rebuilt it myself.. im curious of how it's made inside but i dont have the time nor the courage to open the one on my car which is fully fontionnal...

but not a week goes by that i dont think that one day i will have to change it...

i dont sound too much like a devil's advocate now do i ? :)
