Personally i like hondas :)
but some of my friends at school love 3000gt's, bear in mind that we live in Australia, so good examples or mildly modified 3000gt's are as hard to find as a a needle in a hay stack - albeit an oversized haystack - lol
anyways i was just wondering how powerful and/or fast u could get a 3000gt
meaning like the fastest in the world has like 1200hp or something and - can run 7s - mayb ??? lol
a quick search on the net showed me a couple examples of highly tuned 3000gt's with one of em being 750hp + and runnning mid 10s, would this be considered super quick for these cars ???
because from what i have heard from friends they should b able to b tuned to high powered r34 gtr levels - like the hks drag car would this b tru ??
any other info would help plz
PS. in the future i might contemplate actually buying a 3000gt and trying to become the fastest in the world :P not that i know how fast the fastest 3000gt in the world is :)
bb hope u reply

There are a handful in the 700hp+ range and running in the 10s. Since there were never a lot of these cars built, the aftermarket support has been a slow and steady pace. Its likely that someone will be 900hp and in the nines in the next few years.
Something else to keep in mind. All the cars that have made the tens are all street legal (at least here in the US). There are not many cars that can do that.

so you live in Australia too? Have you seen the price of GTO's over here? Damm..... you could probably by 3 Hondas for the price of one GTO.... but then again there are about 10,000 hondas for every 1 GTO on the road....
but seriously, your looking at at least $25,000 for a 1st Gen and about $35,000 for a decent 2nd gen and about 50,000 for a 3rd gen.

and not to mention at full interior still weighing just under 3800lbs and still running 10s
with any car, you can get it to go as fast as you want with the right amount of money

3kgt's are only in the 10 second 1/4 mile range with about 700-800 hp as stated but it all depends on money. i know of 11 second hondas that are street legal (although very noisy and uncomfortable with barely any interior) and they spent many many thousands of dollars to get there. with the 3kgt you can get into the 11's for only a few thousand extra and retain all the comfortable seats and interior and sound deadening and a/c and sterio and spare tire and 91 octane gas and every day driving tires, and run 11's on the street every day of the week and not change a thing to go drive around when it is rainy or snowy. and the best part is you get mistaken for a ferrari rather than an economy car. of course NSX's do not fall in this category, they are fast and look GOOD stock and they are rare as hell. also it should be noted that there are WAY faster hondas than there are 3kgt's but most of those can only be run on a track and there are only a very small number of parts that came on the car stock (maybe just the frame) so chances are that if you are in a modded VR-4 you will be faster than any non-NSX honda that you ever run into on the street, even the most of the ones that are faster on the track would not be able to keep up on the street.
all in all, you can make any car faster or more powerful than any other car if you want, you just have to know what you want the end result to be. the 3kgt is great if you want a car you can drive all year, be comfortable in, be able to beat just about any car on the streets with minimal investment, ba one of the fastest cars on a roadcourse or 1/4 mile track, and look real good in. it is not a good car if you do not like pricy repairs or if you want to have the absolute fastest car at the track. anything is possible though.

We did...it was on GT A-spec...sorry no disrespect meant, but unless this guy is completely independent, and has built this thing on his own, I seriously doubt it. The 3/S community is a pretty tight-knit community, and generally we would have heard of such a record-breaking vr4.
The strongest we are aware of is: "pit Road M"'s Mitsubishi Gto 840hp 650lbs Tq, featured in a recent issue of Superstreet, Page 92.
You can read up on it here:

The Ferrari Enzo only runs in the 11s and most Ferraris only have 500-some hp, these are easily reachable goals for vr4s that can be obtained for only a few thousand...The 1000hp TT Supras are a much harder takedown than most Ferraris.

He is talking about the 1000HP vr4 in the making, it never got finished. HUUUGE turbos, and no idea what kind of power it would have put down if it was finished. You guys need to look around the supra boards for cars that run under 10 at full weight and street legal.

No disrespect bro, but I remeber seeing the pics and the car, as the post above shows there is one in the makeing. It has twin :evillol: Garrett 30 37 Turbos. 60mm racing wastegate one for each turbo, :smokin: Triple Core thick intercoole, custome radiator.. I remeber that much but dont remeber the rest.. I think its almost done though. I saw updated photos a week ago.. Now where is that website?? grr.. Trust me with enough money you can turn a ugo into a supra eater (or a gokart). The king of the road is always who has the most money.

that has not been updated in a very long time. I saw it at least a year before I got mine. That would be 3 years now. Does anyone know when the 2nd DSM shootout was, or what number they are on now?

Well now I feel like a d!ck...my fault blash.
talskinyguy, I do know that the 2nd one was awhile ago, it was in Texas where Matt Monett was running his DR-650s...he hadn't broken into the 10s(without nitrous) at that point. So it was definantly awhile ago, as alot has changed on his car since.
Lemme do some research...

well apparently the dsm shootouts have been going on longer than we thought...the 2001 was their 9th annual. But 2001 was the first one that the 3/Ss were involved in.
The most recent was the DSM SHOOTOUT 2004 - NORWALK RACEWAY PARK AUGUST 15, 2004....although I don't know if the 3/S community was involved much in the last few, all I could find was DSM info.

Hey got a question seems like a good thred to drop it in.
Which is better for road racing?
Manual Transmisson
Automatic Transmisson ( The reson I ask is because i know the F1 communty has been on Automatic b/c they can shift faster than any human and smoother resulting in more power delivered better and faster)
Any thoughts on wether to go Automatic with a beffy upgrade or stick with Manual?

Well this really depends on how much modding you wanna do. Hotshot has a pretty beefy auto and it seems to be pretty freaking good.
Stock vs. stock, manuals are prefered as you can take them to the shift points you desire, however if you beef up your auto tranny, there are alot of advantages it has over a manual.
First off, autos hold boost better in between shifts, auto's torque converters are a hell of alot better for hard launches, as manual trannys essentially are a hand grenade waiting to go(as hotshot would put it). Autos also shift much faster than a human with a manual, as you mentioned.
With a highstall torque converter, a shift kit, and stuff to improve traction...like LSD, the Auto would take the manual...it is unfortunant that they didn't make auto vr4s solely for that reason...because to get an Auto even with the vr4, you need to do the TT conversion and then still deal with traction, as the N/As were FWD vs. AWD.
But Hotshot seems to have handled that pretty well, you should talk to him.

A great auto trans will alwas be faster and put traction down faster and more consistantly than a manual. I dont know enough about the autos in our cars to say if they are better with a shift kit or now. Maybe holshot can chime in here.
However, I prefer a manual, it makes driving more fun.
And now for one of my favorate quote.
"The fastest cars in the world are automatic, unfortunatly your honda is not one of them."

a second gen 3/S is just as fast as a MKIV supra stock for stock. you do not need anything more than an $18 boost controller to run all over a (stock) TT supra. then again he can do the same but you made it sound like you have to mod the hell out of any 3/S to hang with any supra when in reality they are more or less the same speed stock vs stock. just making sure that you are not overestimating the supra as so many import fans do.

what is this auto talk???
you can do mild upgrades to a TT (they were all manual) and be faster than any auto 3/S in existance. not saying that autos are not better for full out drag beasts but not our autos i would think. plus you can upgrade the stock t-cases easily enough so that they will not grenade.

There are some quick ATXs which is good news for those who don't have the money now to get into a VR4 or RT/TT. Given the preference, I'm sure we all know what to pick :iceslolan
