Well Kenwood Guy They are both good trucks with bad points.

In my opinion The Toyota has a lousy transmission. The 1 that I owned blew 3 transmissions in 2 years. I babied these transmissions, and kept the oil up. It's the only vehicle that I've ever had any problems in this area, so it's not my driving.

As a result I'll never get another Toyota, but I did learn more about them

Toyota has Great motors, thay I'm sure would easily outlast any Chevy.. Toyota'a Differentials are basicly a modified Ford 9 inch, and they just won't break.

The Chevy transmissions seem to be pretty tough, and their engines are still good. But Chevy should have scrapped theis 10 bolt rear end instead of the 12 bolt. The only vehicles that I've ever seen with rear end problems are Chevy.

In my opinion if you want the best truck Get a Nissan. It's all that my mom will buy, and her present 1 has almost 600,000km with only a clutch job done. She put 500,000km on her last 1, teaching both my sis and myself how to drive on it (19, and 20 years ago) and finally it was just to rusty to keep. She never even had to replace the clutch in that 1.

Plus their New pickups look bloody tough.

I have missed what your looking for in a truck, but here is my 2 cnets. A yota or a nissan will last you a long time, as long as you arn't beating on them, just like any other vehicle. You take care of an s-10, and it will last a while too. Usually (not always) people who own those are not looking for a toy. We all know what you do with toys. You gotta see how much mud they can go through, how fast you can take that corner, etc etc, and that is why vehicles die. When is the last time you have seen an old nissan hardbody taking a clover leaf at 60? You should also look at what you want the truck for. If its just getting around, then the 4 bangers in the imports would be fine. You'd get better milage too. But if you wanna tow that boat, or just move a lil punk a$$es car outa the way, you might want a six to give you a little more power. Find what you want in a truck and go from there.

Check out the new Nissan pickup at http://www.nissanusa.com/vehicles/ModelHomePage/0,,31492,00.html and I'm sure that you'll be Very Impressed. They went from Good but Boring to Very tough looking overnight.... Who said that steroids are always bad!!!

I plan on hualing major appliances around washer machines dryers etc.... I dont need a full size truck but I do need a truck I can depend on

If you want an 80's truck buy the Chev, unless you plan on getting the Toyota's frame inspected by a pro. Toyota's frames back then rusted right through, and were un-safe to drive.

I had to replace the frame on my 1 toyota when the gas tank fell out.

Unless you have some big hills to climb a 4 banger will do you fine.

will it last as long as a 6???

Yea, i guess my opinion would be the s10 with the 4.3. You get more power & torque, and ur getting a decently new vehicle at the same time. If u treat it good it will last u a very long time. The 4.3L is a very reliable engine and lasts surprisingly a long time if u don't bag the shit out of it. Go with chev, they look better and are a lot safer than the old toy's.

My quick two cents...I'm in high school with S10 4x4 w/ the 4.3. Bought it used, with 116,000 miles. Runs okay, but has it share of problems and things to be nursed. I can't rage around town in it like my friends with their Chevy cars and Jeep Cherokees, but my S10 always finds a way to blow them away. When I've used it, both offroad and when actually neccesary, the 4WD in it makes it next to unstoppable. And my S10 has had some rough moments, but I baby it a little and it keeps going and I can still get around. I can do this with 16.5+ MPG, something my firends can't say with most of their vehicles. And come winter time with the snow, their street tires and cars will be worthless when I can get around no problem. Except for the cramped cab (ever had 3 people in a Standard Cab S10 for more than 1/2 hour? It sucks), the S10 is pretty good with those other truck mentioned, but with Chevy simplictity, interchangibility and cheapness.
