Have you tried a tune up?
New plugs and wires (AC Delco)
Air Filter
Fuel Filter
Are your tires inflated to 30 psi?
Sticking brake caliper? (With 6-8 mpg I would think all 4 calipers would be bad, but who knows.)
Fuel Injection Cleaning
PVC Valve
EGR Valve
Throttle body cleaning
Could be a number of things. Maybe some others can offer there :2cents: .
Do you stomp the peddle to race to the next signal light?
Start with a tune up and then try more things.

PCV is very easy to get to on the Aurora 4.0, dont forget O2 sensors, you have a total of 4!

Oops, forgot about those pesky 02 sensors. I gotta do the ones on my car and then clean my TB, flush the tranny, flush the brake fluid and flush the radiator. Opps. Also clean the EGR valve.
It never stops.

I average about 10.4 to 13.3 city in my 97 Aurora. I have recently replaced plugs and wires ACDelco and fuel filter. I also have used fuel injector cleaner, and new airfilter. I asked the dealer and they said thats not bad for city, but you know how trustworthy they are.

:2cents:My last check on the DIC was 18. MPG...Before, (5) gas fills ago it was about 20 MPG. It depends on your driving habits, Stop & Go, Freeway driving, etc. BUT 5-6 MPG is not good. RV's get 5-6 on a good day!

Have you had your fuel rail replaced? Could be your leaking fuel and you don't know it.
Also, fuel filter changes on Aurora's are important. I noticed that my mileage would go down if I did not keep a new filter in it all the time.
Are your running cheap regular or high octane premium. Remember these motors need the good stuff.
My Aurora, even in the worst stop and go got 15-18. Highway was always 21-24.

Delray35....are you doing a lot of short distance driving in which your
car doesn't warm up? That can kill gas mileage.

I think he is referring to the engine goeeting up to operating temp. Operating temp for me is about 200 degrees F. My daily commute is 15 minutes each way and even I got about 15-17 mpg (which sucks) but it's better then 6 - 8 mpg.

That's right. I am referring to the engine reaching normal operating
temperature.
I have a 2001 4.0. I do a lot of very short range driving (1 mile or less).
Gas mileage there is 7 - 8 mpg. But when the drive is a round trip of
at least 15 miles, the engine gets warmed up completely, and 17 mpg
is the result.

Somthing I just discovered may be of some assistance. I have an engine code P0101, which is the MAF Sensor in the throddle body. Anyway I am going to replace it as soon as I mustar up $150. This can significantly affect MPG, right now I am getting 10mpg, and the sensor is on and off so once I change it I will update to inform, its worth the time to look into it for your own auroras.

Sounds like you need a major tune-up. I've got almost 160,000 miles on my 1995 Aurora and used to average about 24 to 26 mpg on highway. About a month ago I added a product called Super 21 made by Eniva, a company here in Minnesota and now I get anywhere from 28 to 32 mpg depending how hard I drive my autobahn Aurora. (I like to drive fast for a girl!) Anyway, anybody interested in getting some let me know and I can hook you up otherwise you can call the company direct toll-free at 866-999-9191 and tell them Distributor #21341 (Beth Rewitzer) sent you. They'll be glad to help you out. I love my Aurora and even more so now that I'm getting awesome mileage!
