How to turn off the check engine light?

I have a 2000 Accord with a 2.3L VTEC and manual transmission. I disconnected one of the electrical connectors going to the throttle body and before reconnecting it started the engine. The engine ran rough and I immediately shut it off and reconnected the connector. The engine resumed running smoothly but now the check engine light stays on. Will this clear itself out over time since there really isn't a problem, or will I have to somehow clear it myself? I don't have a scan tool or any other way of clearing it. Any way I can get that thing to go off? I don't know where the PCM is located either. Anyone know? Thanks for any help.

alright so basically the check engine light is on because of a problem that u had, doesnt necessarily mean there is a problem since u corrected it right??, try disconnecting the battery for a min. worked for me lolz

If I disconnect the battery, will I lose the use of the radio? In the manual it says to know the anti-theft code of the radio before disconnecting the battery. I don't know where the anti-theft code for the radio is printed.

Yes there is an anti theft code for the radio...it is not printed anywhere as doing this would defeat the purpose. In order to get the code you have to go to a honda dealership with the VIN number, proof of ownership and i think the serial number from the radio casing...they can look up the code and give it to you.

the anti theft code is when someone takes the radio out of the car, as in a breakin and theft of your radio. you dont need to know the code if you arn't ripping the radio out of your car.

yeah, but if you disconnect the battery, you won't be able to use the radio w/o the code. trust me

I got the light to go out. It turns out it was staying on because the alternator belt was too loose. I was getting a squeal from the belt on startup-up ever since I changed the timing belt. As soon as I tightened up the alternator belt, the squealing stopped and the check engine light turned off. The engine controller must watch the battery voltage on start-up and if it doesn't ramp up fast enough after ignition, throws a fault code.

That fix was even cheaper than black tape.

yeah u do have a anti theft code same thing happened to me when i had someone disconnect my battery. If u take it to honda and ask them for the code there are gonna chearg u 80 dollors to remove ur radio and look on the back of it that is where the code is believe me i know it happened to me. So if u can pull the radio out irself or go to best buy to do it, i suggest u do so it will e much cheaper.
