2007 Skyline GT-R

I saw this in car and driver today and thought you guys would like to hear about it. it is the concept for the 2007 Skyline GT-R http://www.freshalloy.com/site/cars/nissan/skyline/r35/concept/home.shtml

Yeah, I heard about that a while back...I say BOOOOOOO on the engine choice!!!! Keep the RB!!!!!

The new Nissan motors suck. The RB26DETT was a great motor but it won't be brought back. I think is has to do with who they are partners with, Nissan that is. I don't believe you will see another forced induction car for a long while from them.

Actually, Nissan engines are still great engines, just not the best for high horsepower applications, we won't see any 1000hp GT-Rs for a long time...

the reason why they choose the v6 is becusae it will have a better weight distribution. also the V35 GT-R is rumored to be twin turboed. so its goin to be a 3.3 twin turbo v6 making up to 480hp. so i don't see how that can be a bad thing. their bench marking the porsche 911 turbo as the target performance numbers. which means expect the car to run low 12's to high 11's stock.

Renault doesn't really have anything to do with Nissan's engine choices, especially with the RB's discontinuation. The RB-series(as well as most of the SRs) were killed off because emission standards in Japan were getting tougher. It would have been either too costly or impossible to clean the engines up.

Nissan never stopped producing FI vehicles. The X-Trail, Cedric, Gloria, and Stagea, among others all use forced induction.

i'm not a fan of them going V8 on our asses.. it just doesn't seem like a nissan sports car.. its more like they're upgrading the 350Z.. now don't get me wrong, the Z is an unbelievable car, but the skylines are notorious for the power they put out from boost, not displacement.. and to add to that, i'm not complaining, the V8 will be ridiculous.. i'd just rather see a newer rb in it..

i remember reading a japanese article a while back ... one of the reasons that brought an end to the r34 gt-r(rb26) in japan was due to emission regulations. Of course, we still have regs here to import JDMs... but once they started emission testings in Japan many of the sports cars couldn't past. This also includes the 280ps (206kW) ceiling that was placed over japanese manufacturers. Furthermore, Mazda ended the 3rd gen RX7 around the same time as well. The last of the series-8 rx7 type R and RS models hit the 280ps ceiling and didn't even make it outside of Japan. As you all know the later GT-R models had the limiter which stops the monster engine from pushing over "280ps" on the dyno... but of course japanese drivers had it removed immediately after they obtained the car.
anyway... seeing that the new Concept GT-R is left-handed... we might start seeing Nissan USA bringing in the powerhouses over to this side since we don't have a hp ceiling... yet.

V-8??? come on... that ain't necessary. Only domestics think bigger is better. The one thing amazing about JDMs are the ability to squeeze out the immense torque and powerband from restricted engine displacements and bring the car close to it's highest potential (SR, RB, Vtech, 13b/20b rotary, etc..)... now that's what you call talent....

Nissan yes still makes forced induction cars but they don't reach the US. The new skyline, if it does actually make it over here will have a decent powered V8. They won't turbo a V6. All concepts have rumors of great things like 480hp twin turbo V6s, but they never see production, at least in the US. Look at the 240sx. There has never been a turbo 240 sold in the US. That was one of the most popular cars in Japan, and is still very popular. High performance turbo cars tend to create more emissions and that is why it is impracticle. The US gov't will not let a twin turbo V6 Nissan come to the US. Emissions got more strict in Japan and continue to get more strict in the US. The RB was a bullet proof motor and the only advantage to a V6 is space saving. Not weight distribution. You need to look at the distribution of a skyline. A perfect example is the shit they try to call an evo here. Take an evo from anywhere else in the world and match it to ours and ours will get smoked. The STI even had to make bigger displacement to do it. Use your heads. :banghead:By the way, I hope I'm wrong. I like the RB better, but I would love to see a twin turbo V6. I just always look at the past US spec bullshit vehicles.

I think the design sucks, it looks futuristic ugly thing. Engine i think its not bad. Ohh and in jap a lot of vehicles will be turbocharged because in order to pay low tax they need a turbo, because they pay tax for displacement. So if you have a big ass v8 in there you are considered pretty rich.

I agree, the futuristic look of the 350Z prototype was fine cause the car hadded been around for a while, but they just finished the R34, they should make the 35 look like it, like they did with the 32 and 33.

holy old ass news....it will be here....twin turboed and all 6 cylanders,not 8.....is said to have over 400 hps all wheel drive.....supposed to blow porsche away so all us americans buy it and not porsches....i read its supposed to be the best skyline ever made!!!!!!

I hate the design, it sucks, V8 just doesn't say "Skyline".

I hope it's a twin turbo V6, but look at the history of US spec cars. The new S4 by Audi has a V8, used to be a twin turbo V6. I just bet that something like a twin turbo V6, all wheel drive Skyline, in the US is just to good to be true. And most concept cars go into final stages and never make it to the showroom. They can talk all they want about bringing the turbo skyline over to the US, but talk is cheap. Don't count on it until it's in the showroom.

Very true....but you gotta dream...Im not a huge fan of the new look, or the V8 option...seems like Nissan took the easy way out on this one...but its still years away and we shal see what the final product turns out to be

it's going to be a TT VQ33 engine, not V8. And that car shown is very likely not what the skyline GT-R is going to look like when it debuts in 2007. Cars always comes up with concepts to hype it up, but in the end it always changes

agreed, its only a study. the final look is not finalized yet. they still ahve 3 years. alot can happen in trends and automotive fashion. key elemnets that will remain will wtill be round tailights, the rear fender crease, big rims/tires (<-shows visual strength), and a big ol air dam in the front

I hope they keep it the same just update the look, like they did from the R32 to R33 and R33 to R34.
