VTEC vs CVTC

Hey Guys, which is better? Honda's VTEC or Nissan's CVTC? After using both, the CVTC feels more powerfull, but those Preludes and Integras are keeping up with the Spec V. I don't know much about engines. I hope you guys do. Thanks.

They are completely different technologies that do completely different things, I don't know how you can begin to compare them. I mean that's like comparing a civic's shifter to a sentra's driver's side window.

VTEC - the car essentially has 2 cam profiles. The lower profile is tuned for gas mileage and driveability, when the rpm gets high enough, the engine switches over to a more aggressive cam for extra power
CVTC - stands for continuously variable timing control. The ECU adjusts the engine's timing continuously to prevent detonation/pinging and optimize gas mileage. There is no crossover point, there is no 2nd cam profile, there is no extra power generated (actually there might be, depending on the specifics, but that's not what CVTC is there for, and it's only 1-2hp at most)

cvtc wins at 5000 rpm the secondary lobes open up on the qr25de motor and it sounds like a vtec and boost a lil more. but you have to have a cai to hear it. vtec hits at 5300rpm and there's no comparison. the 2.5 with the right tuning and a turbo can spank almost any car on the street. i just sold my 00 civic si even with all the mods it still couldn't keep up with an ser spec v honda's don't have torque case closed

Yep its the intake runners, that smooth out the power band, it switches in high and low rpm to give better low/top end power. but thats not CVTC

I am just taking a guess here but wouldnt it only come through the short at high RPM and not bothe because wouldnt the turbulence of 2 different airflow paths cause some sort of problem. I thought on the GSR at least it switches over to the shorter runners not opens both because the shorter runners flow better at high air speeds because of less surface area or something.

well, in my oppinion the CVTC sounds better because its constantly adjusting the timing and VTEC is not, but on DOHC engines is it on both cams or just one? I would rather listen to VTEC though because I LOVE that sound when it crosses over. now Ivtec vs. CVTC Ill give the Ivtec props cuz as far as I know it has a crossover p[oint as well as infintely adjustable intake cam timing.

ya, Honda Vtec motors sound pretty nice in the top revs, with the right exhaust that is, i hate those coffee can mufflers kids put on, sounds like a lawnmower.
But i like the size of the Qr25, once you get those internals taken care of, it loves to make big power with a turbo.

yeah, I raced a civic that sounded HORRIBLE, like, me shaking my change tin. I was one of them for a while, you dont know your car sounds like total crap until you let someone drive by. I thought mine sounded decent but when I went to my friends muffler shop to get my exhaust done before I had him do anything I just had him rev it and man it sounded like hewas revving up a CR250 or something, wekll not reaklly but im sure you know what I mean,. so I had him throw on a glasspack at the end and a new tip and it quieted it WAY DOWN and got rid of thew 2 stroke rap.

VTEC has been around more than CVTC so i would say VTEC, Why i seen it work on almost all honda engines. But the SER puts out more torque

all i know is that i got a stock 95 gsr and my boys got a 04 spec v with intake and exhaust and i owned him everytime. My vote goes to Vtec

All I can say is that your friend can't drive his 04 Spec V or your GS-R is not stock. He should be able to beat a GS-R without any mods on a Spec V. I know I have and mines is a stock 02 Spec V. The Spec V has a lot of torque and not many people know how to control that torque when taking off. I still think the CVTC engine is superior because it produces more power and torque at 6200 rpm than a VTEC does at 8000rpm.

actually hes a good driver and ive raced 3 spec Vs already and ive beaten them all. Maybe u havent raced a 95 gsr. they arent all the same. 95 and 99 have a better computer OBD1. His 04 beats my other friends 02. The newer ones seem faster. He hasnt lost to an older one yet
