Ok i was just wondering the power diffrence between a 3sgte (us) spec or a 3sgte (jdm) style what would be an overall better performer but i know u cant / it would be hard as hell to smog the jdm style

jdm has 20hp more in both engine generations.
i dont really see a problem with smogging the jdm motor, considering the 20hp difference between the two comes from the cat converter which isn't on the jdm and is on the us for emissions.

well thats parcially wrong because america never recieved the 3rd generation 3sgte...
usdm 1991 - 1995 had 200hp
jdm 2nd gen 225hp
jdm 3rd gen 245hp
the 25hp looks tempting but they run a higher octane in japan so their ecu is differnt... if u do a jdm swap then u have to get a new ecu or reprogram one and u no longer have a 225hp engine... i think u still end up with more than a usdm 3sgte but from what i hear, most people find it easier just to get a usdm 3sgte....
the jdm 3rd generation comes with a different turbo (ct20b) which is why there is the extra 20hp

i dunno... the ECU is able to adjust for conditions, it "learns" from anything up to the last 40 times you drove/ran the car, i think this is partly to adjust to fuel types. are you sure the US only got 1 generation of the engine? i thought from 93 on it had 220hp??? again 20-25 hp down on the JDM version.

yes im sure... and the 3rd gen 3sgte was put into mr2's in 94 but america was stuck with the 2nd gen throughout all of the years it was produced 91 - 95

bugger... sucks to be american!
i'm sure i saw something saying that the us got the 3rd gen with 220 somewhere... will try and find it.

Noth America only ever had the 2nd gen engine.
Getting a JDM GEn III would pose a challenge for getting it smogged as a lot of the emissions controls are altered or removed.
I would never bother with JDM engines ... I prefer to use something that is supported by the US dealers.
Also, for the extra $$$ you will pay to get your hands on a Gen III ... you could have invested that into the Gen II and gotten the extra HP ;)

i currently have a 2nd gen JDM 3sgte motor and the only differences i can tell is that there is no EGR (so dont expect to pass emissions) and higher Boost fuel cut. Other than those two there is very little difference between jdm and USdm spec. So if ya want less hassle with emission get the USdm. As for prices go, i dont think the prices for a usdm and jdm vary that far off.

ya i no that the jdm style would be a bitch to smog but dont get me wrong my friend it is very possable as far as prices i have been looking at two rear clips (engine, ecu, tranny) and there is a pretty big price diffrence the usdm is $3500 jdm $2000 same place same quality all clean an inspected so i think taht does make a diffrence but the jdm has more power right? how mutch more? what is the stock hp on a jdm and usdm turbo ?

on both engine generations the JDM has 20hp more than the US spec. This is attributed to the cat converter. The cat converter is necessary for smog levels. do the math.

no, i already said this... the usdm spec mr2 never got the 3rd gen engine which means that in 1994 the jdm mr2 had 45 more hp than the american version

the usdm 3sgte is already a good platform to start on. what are your intentions with your car and how much power are you looking for?
