You're supposed to use 93 octane only with the vtec. If you want, sometimes you can pick up octane booster for really cheap. In that case, you could put 87 in and add the octane booster, and I suppose you'd be fine. Though I've heard this work, idk, i'm a little skeptical, so I just stick with the 93.

Octane booster does shit. It says it raises you 10 points, as in .1 x10. So it'll really only raise 87 to 88 octane. You can run your prelude on less then 91/93 octane but it'll run like shit and you run the risk of dentention. So which is more expensive, gas or a blown engine? Nuff said.

Like I said, I wouldn't trust it

When I plan on driving it hard, I will use nothing but +93. On normal days when I'm cheap (being as poor as I am), I put 89 into it. I drive it like a baby during those times.

......my dad just took my car out the other night and filled the tank with 87 regualr unleaded. could this be serious? my car runs fine but it feels real laggy.

I would say defintely avoid vtec and aren't hills the most common place for detention? If so I'd say avoid those too.

just keep under 3.5k rpm until you can fill up with premium fuel.

premium fuel is so expensive. how much miles can you guys get on a full tank of gas?

Bout 250-275 miles to a full tank. Once I managed to get 300 when I did a lot of highway drivin.

Yeah I get about the same in my 94 vtec, it all depends on how I drive.

that sound about right. i get around those digits. they are really low compared to my accord...i can get 350-370 miles on a full tank.

how much is everyone paying for premium?

i pay 2.05/gal and that is at sheetz. others are running 2.15-2.20.

I think premium is up to $2.15/gal around here. Sucks, but I'm not running the risk of detonation.

premium here is $2.35/gal

I run about 380 miles per tank with an h23a

Also I try to get gas early mornings, or leate evenings because the weather is cooler, so you get more gas. :)

Your dash AND Gascap should say "Premium Unleaded Fuel Only"

That would be my clue to run teh good stuff. If not, VTEC's will run like shit.

can you put more than 1 of those in to raise it more?

putting more octane would dilute the gasoline more. Note that octane is NOT gasoline.

The density of gasoline changes with temperature(as with all fluids), so with the same philosophy of having cold air enter your intake, putting in 12 gallons of cooler fuel is more than 12 gallons of warmer fuel. If you don't believe me, you can try it out for yourself.

One day get fuel up around 2pm. Note the mileage you get. Next time you need to fuel up get it around 8am. Note the mileage.

Another thing, it's best not to get gas after you see those tankers pulling out because it means the fuel in the storage isn't fully mixed and you might get gas that is diluted.

it's pointless to not put premium... it's an extra like $2 a tank... big deal. an extra $.20 isn't that bad per gallon.
