Big Business Reliability

I go to websites like www.srswap.com and www.xatracing.com and see specials for engines and installation services. They say that buying an s13 engine for less than $1500 is not a sound investment and argue that their engines, at $2500, are something better to consider. How credible is this? Are they just trying to rip you off for some money, or is this true? I've heard people get S13 Redtops at a cheap price and have been happy with the results. What do you think?

Also, what would be a reliable place where you can get a decent engine for a cheap price.

It all depends on who you buy the engine from. When you buy from a private seller its basically the same as buying a car. You could either end up with a great car that'll last you a long time or you could be buying a car that has tons of hidden problems.

The reason why these larger companys advise against buying an engine from a private seller is because of all the work they do the engines from the time they get the car to the time they sell it to you. When you buy it from a large company that specializes in motors majority of the time they have the engine compression tested, cleaned, and inspected to make sure that its reliable.

In a way you could consider it the price of insurance. You can either take the risk and hope you get a good motor or you can pay the extra money and be confident you got something that will last. Its all up to you. Lemme grab some good motor websites for you. Hold on

ASAP Motors (http://www.asapmotors.com) - I think they quoted me something like $2100 for the engine, tranny, ecu and harness

Nippon Motors (http://www.nippon-motors.com) - $1500 for just the engine and tranny but its still a company that specializes in motors

ill keep looking around if you want but those are two of the best that I've found.
