My transmission works fine at start-up. After driving for a little while the tranny starts to slip, then doesn't shift at all. I took it to a shop and they said it's slipping when it gets hot and I need a rebuild. Is their nothing else I can do? Thanks!!

Nope. If it's newer, 1998+, maybe rebuild, but anything before that I just forget about it. Chances are that car is going to leave you stranded some time down the road. The Taurus has the crappiest, poorest excuse for a transmission I've even seen. That's just my opinion though. Anyone I have known that has owned a Taurus has had a very large and extensive amount problems, as well as myself. I own a 1993, nice running 3.8L, I'll give Ford their credit for good engines, but my tranny is toast. Suspension is absolutely screwed. Power steering makes noise and has a mind of its own. If you're looking for a long lasting car, get something with a 4 banger, they don't put out very much power.
Good Luck!
