hey I'm looking for a 325I or IS in the 87-93 years. How much should I look forward to paying for one in good shape and how many miles are BMWs good for?
I've been looking and have found them anywhere from 2k-5k

ill tell you what, i just blew my motor in my 87 325is at over 250,000 miles. I broke the timing belt while going down the road. I could redo it with a new valve and rocker arm and possibly a new head, but im ready for something different. If you need any tuning tips or ideas let me know i have lots of parts and the car with the blown motor. Every thing else works

A well maintained 3 series will last forever. Don't be scared of cars in the 125k to 160k range. If they have been taken care of they will purr like new. Things to look for are head gasket problems, water pump problems (which needs to be replaced with a metal impeller version), and rear chasis mounts broken. Spending $75 to $150 on a pre-purchase inspection is mone well spent in the long run. Head gaskets are not cheap to replace! I live in Tulsa but found my 325 in Columbus Ohio, it was worth the flight up there to get it. 1994 325is, 74k miles, $8900, spotless. I drove a lot of junk local before I found this one. Take your time and find a nice one to start with, you will be very happy you did and enjoy your new bimmer that much more. Good luck!

A friend of mine bought a 89' 325i for about 5k, and spent about 1k in the shop. Runs near perfectly now. Had about 125,000 miles on it, which isnt bad considering i've seen BMWs with 300,000 miles on them.

i got a 93 325is 2 years ago with 117xxx for $5500. i had to replace the plastic pins on the door panels and get new tires, but that's it other than changing the oil and normal preventitive maintenance. it has 140xxx now and still runs strong.

I bought my '89 325i for 3k, with 147k miles on it. There are good deals out there, but it might take calling about and test driving a bunch before you find one. Mine's in great shape mechanically (has a couple minor electrical gremlins, though). Oh, and I'm from northwest Ohio, and there's no rust :iceslolan

I bought my 325I in February from a friend that definitely didnt take care of it. I purchased the car for 2k (94 325I 5speed with 163k), by 165k, a ball joint let go and I replaced the whole front end (steering rack, tie rods, control arms, ball joints, the works) and other than that, the car runs like a dream, its got over 180k on it and everytime I go out to turn it on, it starts right up without any problems. I love it.

I just bought myself a 93 325i with 173,000km on it, and it needs about 500$s canadian in work done to it, but I got it for 6500$. All of the others comparable were selling for approx. 10,000$ and were in comparable if not worse shape then mine. So far i love it.

I must of got a steal then, because i just purchased a 94 325i with 90k on the clock for $4200. And it looks GREAT inside and out, not to mention the motor is immaculate also. The only thing i need to do to it is have the drivers seat redone because the leather isn't that sharp. Good luck on finding a good one !!
