Uhhh.... I think most of us here street race... but I indulde(d) in 'touge' racing and have screwed around in the dirt roads rally style... I would like to go semi/pro and get into real drag-racing, sprint, auto-cross, rally and/or drift though...

i auto cross regularly, trust me you don't need ot be "pro" lol. There was an M5 last time i went out and i ran faster times than him (sad i know) but it's just about having fun and watching cars go fast.

Isom, KY. Mountain Motor Speedpark. (edit: Isom, KY is in Eastern, KY, or Letcher County, KY to be more specific)

It's a local non-sanctioned 330 ft. drag strip and 1/8th mile dirt track. I reckon they use IHRA rules, or atleast that's what it used to be. There is three classes: Bracket 1, Bracket 2, and Trophy. Bracket 1, most all electronic devices are allowed, you must have a roll cage, you must have atleast 4 point seat belts, and you have to run a certain ET (I think its 0-5.49), no track counters, no down track stuttering, basically, the same rules that you would find at any other track, except you don't have to go through tech. The regular show is $1000 to win, $500 for runner up, $75 for 3rd and 4th, or $150 if there ends up being 3 cars left instead of 4. The entry fee is $40 for driver and car.

Bracket 2 is the non-electronics class, or foot break. Here, any kind of vehicle goes (street or track car), so the speeds vary greatly. Some cars in this class run 4.70s and then some are 8 second daily drivers, lol. You are allowed to use a line-lock in this class but nothing else. I'm not sure, but I think they pay $500 for the winner, $250 for runner up and I believe it cost $30 to enter.

Trophy Class is for street cars. There is the occasional trailored car, but mainly street cars. I think you pay $20 and you race for $200.

Its a really fun track actually. It doesn't hook as good as other tracks (our car is usually atleast a tenth faster in the 60' and 330' at any other track, sometimes even more) but its really close to home for me (like 30 miles or something) compared to any other tracks that's close. The closest one besides it is over 2 hours.

Pretty much the same people show up every weekend, and its actually really tough to win there! My best overal run (as in my sig) was .012 from being a perfect run, and I still only won the race by a couple hundreds of a second. Honestly, in order to win there, you about have to get a .520 or better reaction time (.500 base tree) and run within .020 of your dial. And even at that you will loose more races then you win, and its not like you have alot of time during a race either (330 ft, I run it 4.4x usually, probably close to 85 mph).

There is usually around 100 total cars at the track, which is not too bad. There is usually anywhere from 18-22 or so that run in my class.

No road course racing option?

I've driven most of the road courses in the Northeast US. Here's the list:
Lime Rock, NHIS, Mosport, Mt. Tremblant, Bridgehampton, Watkins Glen, Summit Piont, VIR.

I've also done the occasional autocross and one rallycross.

Ky huh? That's cool, i'm from IL. What's your best time at the track so far? I take it that you mean it's Index racing since you have to be within a certain time right?

The parkland drag car that i help out with(not much at all lately) runs the 1/8 mile usually in Charleston IL. We usually run low 7's, my best simulated reaction time was a .478 and that was going from a pro starting tree, which is supposed to be quicker. Are you trying to work your way up to NHRA or do you just do it for fun?

I do all sorts of different racing, some that aren't even in your poll, which might be considered very ballsy or very stupid. I have done drag racing at the track, but it’s a pain in the butt since there are so many people that you're lucky to get two runs. That’s no good for tuning! I also like to drag race on the street from light to light if someone wants to play. I don't do anything with the organized street racing because that is beyond stupid. I also like to race on the highway from a roll. The one that you didn't list is canyon racing. I find it fun to drive up a canyon road, a place like Little Cottonwood Canyon or American Fork Canyon, and then drive down it really fast. Granted that isn't the smartest thing to do but it sure is a blast. Besides, nobody is going to close them off for a hill climb event any time soon. I’m trying to get into Auto-X but the project GTC won’t be up to par until I get the wheels & tires, brakes, and suspension replaced. Perhaps I can start next season. I would take the Sebring out on the track because it does have a pretty good suspension on it, but it is my daily driver and I don't want to risk breaking something on it.

As a side note, the racing I do on the street and in the canyons is pretty much always at night. I try to race only when there aren't any other people around and I don't let it get to ridiculous speeds. I would rather just lose the race.

Basically I race wherever. Haven't had the opportunity to do track racing, but when it comes along, I'll probably do it. I just drive around, and if someone revs and I think it'll be a good race, I'll go. I usually don't try to destroy ricers unless they irritate me, and I usually don't race against cars that will absolutely destroy me unless it is like a Ferrari and they want to go. That's about it.

I've always wanted to try road racing like auto-x or road courses. I haven't mostly because i'm to lazy to research my area for events, and my Buick is out of order until next july probably.

We usually run low 7's, my best simulated reaction time was a .478 and that was going from a pro starting tree, which is supposed to be quicker. Are you trying to work your way up to NHRA or do you just do it for fun?

Well, I've never driven the car on a 1/8th mile track (I've only started driving it this season, and halfway through it at that, so my next race will be my 7th), and its been probably 2 years since we've had it at an 1/8th mile track. I think Clay City, KY was the last 1/8th we've been to (may have been London, KY) the car ran 6.70s. Now that was with a 355 SBC (we run a 406 now) but it performed similar to the engine that's in the car now. The best ever time at a 1/8th was 6.71 at 101 mph, and I'd say the average time would be 6.80. I'd assume with the current engine, it would atleast go 6.70s, but probably crack into the 6.60s. It's really strong on top end.

My personal best ET at the 330 ft. track is 4.439, with a 60' of 1.524 (I've beat that 60', had a 1.523, but the 330 ET was slower). Now with a different engine (still a 406 SBC, just a little stouter) my uncle has had the car run a 330 ET of 4.26 with a 1.46 60' time. That happened at the very beginning of this year, however that engine spun a bearing, so that's why we haven't been running it.

I would some day like to race at big tracks, but for now I do it just for fun. I'm 21 years old and a Senior in college now, so I really can't afford to go "bigtime", lol. It's my uncles car, I just drive it, lol. It's sort of a family thing, we've been drag racing for probably half of my life. My dad does most of the work on the car, my uncle pays for everything, and now I drive (he used to drive).

Yeah, its ET racing (I call it bracket racing). There is a handicap (not heads up). An example run: In my fourth weekend of driving, I won $500. There was 3 cars left, we all agreed to split the money 3 ways, with the winner getting an extra $100. So anyways, I wound up third. I was dialed a 4.44, the other car was dialed a 3.95. I had a .513 RT, 1.524 60', and ran 4.439 (broke out-which means I ran faster then my predicted time, so I lose, provided the other car doesn't red light, cross the center line, or break out worse). He had a .527 RT, 1.393 60', and ran 3.981. He run .031 off his dial, and I went -.001 off mine. And I got the handicap for that race (he spotted me .49 seconds).

The last race I run, I red lighted, so the other car automaically won (this was last weekend). I was dialed 4.45, had a .498 RT and ran 4.454, or .004 off my dial. It really sucked, becuase I had the other car covered big time, BUT I red lighted -.002.

Hope that helps ya understand what bracket racing is.

sorry i for got road races/weekend races. oh and yes i have done across the city and back..we have a small city though. empty parking lot by the HS onto 441 to Baya and Baya to 90 to Mall Praking lot and back. Nextel Comes in handy for thoes... it isnt the most popular race around here because there are lots of places for cops to hide and untill about 12:00 not the clearest of traffic. and some dumbasses will cut through residential areas if the stakes are high and they are loosing (around here $300 is pretty high...so yes they are dumbasses). but every once and a while there is a call out and every once in a whle there is an answear.

Edit:
name some types of car racing i have forgotten/dont know of

Mainly street drags. I like to go out with friends and race for fun. I go to Gainsville Raceway occasionaly but it is just too full of people. Half of the ricers just come out there and clog up the pits. Then the other half fill up the lanes. I drive around a lot hoping to run into some car people but usually no luck. Then you have the people that pass you and you just end up driving with them hauling ass. Those are pretty fun too.

I will personally only race from a stop or a very slow(maybe 5mph) roll. I think it is the most fair and the most even way to race. Racing from a stop incorporates just about every aspect of your car and you need more of a "complete" car(traction issues, gearing, etc) to be effective. I see many cars that only race from a 30-40 MPH roll and win where if they raced from a dig they would most likely lose.
