NASCAR is, without a doubt, the most boring motorsport in the world.
with that said, i used to be somewhat of a fan back in '99. i went to the Pepsi 400 with my dad at Daytona Speedway in Florida, mostly just as a father-son bonding thing, because he was REAL into NASCAR, but i wasn't so much. so anyways, the night before the race, we were eating at Hooter's just down the road from the speedway, and some guy sat next to us at the bar. we thought nothing of it.
after a while, all these people started coming up to this guy for autographs and were talking to him. my dad was like "brian, who's sitting beside me? i don't want to look, but people keep asking him for autographs and it's starting to get annoying."
i looked over, and whispered to my dad "uhh...dad? you're sitting beside Dale Earnhardt Jr."
my dad whipped around, smiled, and asked for an autograph.

Ditto Formula one.....
What bugs me is that points are awarded for driving ability, and shouldn't be taken off because some dickhead thinks good ole boys shouldn't say shit.

Right, because driving an inch off of someone's bumper at 190mph for 2 hours is so easy.
NASCAR is, without a doubt, the most boring motorsport in the world.
Like 7 seconds of monotonous blaring straight line "action" just keeps me on the edge of my seat...briefly...
nascar is the redneck stepchild of real racing.
The redneck stepchild that predates most of the "real" racing you speak of. By the way, if NASCAR isn't, what is "real" racing?

F1 racing. Every other kind of racing that involves more than 2 giant curves for each time around the track. And I'm not saying that nascar driving doesn't take skill. It does. But other kinds of racing take more skill.

Im not arguing the history of the sport, rather the statement that its boring and "the redneck stepchild of real racing". And if your not impressed by two giant curves, might as well turn off such classics as track, horse racing, and dog racing, not to mention some F1 racing.
And what about the Watkins Glenn, Pocono and Infineon races?

hey noob, I never said I could do it, and I did say it takes skill. I just said F1 racing takes FAR MORE skill. Which is completely true.
I autocross, btw, and will be doing some track days when I get my new BMW.
And, yes, kustm, if it goes in a big circle then I generally don't like it. Don't like horseraces, don't like dograces. don't like chariot races, don't like big oval F1 races.

I'd say rally racing takes the most skill (ok, maybe second place, but thats besides the point) than any of the other forms of racing listed above.
When you're rally racing, nothing will EVER be predictable. Running the course a second time will not even be remotely similar to the first. Why? Due to ever so changing conditions. Dirt (Snow, Gravel etc..) is constantly being moved around. The surface you're driving on is never the same. Toss in rain, snow, fog, and mud on your windshield, and you're in for one hell of a ride. Why do you think they need navigators? Because its damn near impossible to run the course by yourself. Sure, you can get a "feel" for a rally course after you run it a couple times. But "feel" alone sure isn't gonna give you the win. Rally racing is one of the few racing forms where you jump over dirt mounds. Land a couple degrees off and you're set for a continuous drift into a tree.
Ok, I'm ready for flames  But i'm still standing my ground

drag racing is certainly boring too.
the only time NASCAR is exciting is when they crash...cause you know it'll be spectacular.
NASCAR can't even compare to F1. F1 is so much more engaging and fun to watch, and at least they have right hand corners at every race instead of just 3 per season.

OH GOD I KNOW!! Watching John Force run the 1/4 mile in 4.56 seconds at 333 mph is horrid, especially the fact that he broke the speed record for the top fuel funny car class.....

Although I think this is a stupid thing to argue over (peoples own opinions, that is), I will say the V8 supercars and Drifting are the only 2 types of motorsport I watch, the V8s more so than the drifting...

Yup, 4.5 seconds of monotonous blaring, then hearing a guy who yells all the time talk for 20 minutes about how good his run was is just riveting.

I like watching NASCAR, because:
1. I'm in a pool and have a chance to win money on every race.
2. There are no team orders (anyone remember Ferrari in F1 a couple years ago ???).
Drag racing is great, if you do the racing.
But, I agree with the others on WRC. It takes sooo much skill to stay on the road, when you're racing on the side of a mountain or between trees ... oh yeah and add racing at night too !!!!

meh...different drums for different drummers....can't say that i get to into Nascar, although i will watch it when it's on. But watching the NHRA drag races is very thrilling to me. Just imagine the adrenaline rush.
