I just sold my 96' a couple of weeks ago. Had 188,000 miles on it but ran great. (Hate to say it but I kinda miss it) No major problems except for the A/C stopped blowing cold air, most likely a bad compressor.

Anyways the kid that bought the car from me calls me up and is asking me about electrical problems, of which I had never had with the car.

This is what he said is happening.

The dash gauges no longer work and the DIC no longer works. However the dash lights still work. Also he says the remote alarm no longer works.

Frankly for all the years I had this car and all the Aurora forums and owners I have known never have I ever heard of this problem.

Any suggestions?

I asked if they had jump started someone, figuring maybe they shorted out the body. He says no. Or they tried to do some custom electrical system changes like stereo, booster etc....

Could it be an ignition switch problem?

Although this kid signed a legally binding contract for the purchase, stating sold as is, I would like to see if I can help him out a little.

Thanks for all your input, ahead of time.

What has he done to diagnose? Has he checked the easy things like fuses yet? Did he check the battery in the remote?

Have him join this forum. From the sound of it he will need lots of support. If the DIC is shut down check fuse I/P 1 (rear fuse block under back seat) Also check HVAC Cont Fuse in I/P fuse block (LH side of I/P near door vent, behind cover). Good Luck !

I'm thinking he and his know it all buddies started messing with the car stereo and don't want to admit it.

Or maybe that's the testy old curmudgeon in me trying to bust loose since I'll be turning 30 in a couple of months :)

:iceslolan I agree Retro-D, one week here and he'll be just like us.....helping out!
Since he just bought the car he 'll ask a few questions until he gets comfortable. Have him get "a manual" and read it through. Tell him about us here, at the Forums. Thank you Columbus for getting us to dry land!
