Denali HID's quick question

ive done my research on some hid sets and i still cant find a straight forward answer. i know some kits come with "bridges" where the low beam hid's stay on when the high beams are being used, but what happens if you dont use the bridges? quite a few kits that people on the forum have recommended do not include (or just fail to mention up front) the bridges yet they do mention the relays.

also, if i did purchase some philips ballasts and bulbs what kind of relays would i need to use?

Hmmm, I've heard of some folks wanting their low beams to remain lit when the highs are on, but not with an HID setup--I mean, not that it can't be done, but it would look weird due to the color temp difference between the halogen highs and the HID lows. You got me there--the more "reputable" kits (xenonfactory.com and xenondepot.com) don't mention anything about these "bridges" you're talking about.

well the only reason i ask about the bridge is because i didnt know what happens after you click back off your high beams (do the hid's take another 15 seconds or so to be fully on?, if so that would be pretty unsafe) but if the hid's fire back up immediately then i guess there wouldnt be a problem after you turn your high beams off and the hid's come back on

I have an '03 Denali with HIDs in the Low beams and Fogs... If I need quick light I just hold the high beams on (pull the lever towards you) and the low beams stay on. When I keep the high beams on it doesn't take long for the HIDs to come back on to full strength after turning off the highs...

i purchased a set from xenonfactory.com and i am very impressed with the easy installation and the quality. i was under the impression that the hid's took a moment to "heat up" during which time the light would be very dim (which is why i was wondering about the time between the high beams clicking off and the hid's being warmed up enough for you to see and drive) but i quickly realized that there wasnt a problem at all with instant visible light. my only question now is how did i go so long with just normal halogen lights, these hid's are amazing.

Ok, I am new to the addition of HID's. I have an 01 Denali and would love to have HID's. What parts do you have to purchase? How hard to install? Estimated price? Are they only for the low beams, not high?

the basic parts to any hid system are the bulbs, ballasts and wiring. any good aftermarket hid kit will include relays to allow you to draw power directly from the battery instead of your headlight wiring harness. the install is pretty basic, plug and play. no stripping or cutting on your part. i ordered my system from xenonfactory.com and the quality is very good, not to mention their 3 year warranty they offer. the color of their 4100 philips bulbs are perfect and the light output is amazing.

the price varies on the quality of the set. obviously the nicer german made ones are going to be more than that "made in china" ones. i can see a lot better with my low hid beams than i can with my high halogen ones alone.

Jimi ordered the philips 4100 9005 rebased conversion. and once again, i am very pleased and will never go back to halogen.

Save yourself time and money and get the Sylvania Silverstar Ultra Whites 9005 St2s, they look exactly like the HIDs and a sinch to install. They go for about $40 bucks a pair.

I second that--although yes, the Silverstars are almost HID-like in color when compared to the stock halogens, they definitely appear almost halogen-like in color when A-B'd against an HID setup. I can say this unequivocally because I was running SS bulbs in my DXL before I switched to HIDs, and there was definitely a difference in color between the SS and HID.
