Thanks for the link kitted. Interesting info.
But about this one I'm not sure:
FERRARI
That's not a prancing horse, it's a dancing donkey - Enzo was hung like one and he liked everyone to know. No, no - just a joke. In fact, the prancing horse was originally the emblem of Italian WWI flying ace Francesco Baracca, whose parents persuaded Ferrari to adopt the symbol of their late son for his racing Alfas.
From what I know the prancing horse was Enzo's brother military unit emblem.

Negative. It was the fighter pilots'. He was good friends with Enzo, and he used it on his cars when racing for Alfa Romeo.

Although Mitsubishi has only been in the UK for 25 years, it built its first car in 1917. The company itself goes back to 1870, when it built its first ships - the three diamonds represent a ship's propellers.
Hmm...
Yataro Iwasaki, the founder of the old Mitsubishi organization, chose the three-diamond mark as the emblem for his company. The mark is suggestive of the three-leaf crest of the Tosa Clan, Yataro's first employer, and also of the three stacked rhombuses of the Iwasaki family crest.

Probably got that impression because of the Southern Cross, which is 5 stars visible in the southern hemisphere, used on Oz and NZ flags. Looks very similar to those in the Suby badge.

Nah... It's cuz Paul Hogan was their TV spokesman for AGES! He wasn't the only Aussie either. Pretty much the entire cast of each commercial was 'Aussie' and it always took place in the bush or outback.
And I've heard a different explanation for their logo. I've always heard that Subaru chose the logo because it's part of Fujitsu Heavy Industry, which is a conglomeration of 5 other companies, thus the 5 small stars. The large lone star is supposed to represent something else. :dunno: It just also happens that Subaru is also the name of a constellation with similar numbered stars.

Interesting. Ever since their introduction here in 1994, the Subaru WRX has held absolute cult status and still does. It's actually pretty depressing because every man and his dog has one and there are SO many that the used car market is flooded, driving prices down to $13,000 AUD, or $7k US.

The US WRX is priced significantly cheaper than the Aus WRX. It entered the market at ~$45k in 1994 and dropped to it's current price of about $40k in 1999 IIRC.
For it's awesome potential it is depressing to see it so devalued in terms of price AND commonality on our roads. But I guess it had to happen becuase that is what Subaru marketing wanted.

Some what correct, after WWII the giant manufacturers who had made weapons in Japan were all split up - after U.S. occupation had ended, several companies that had resulted from the splitting of the Nakajima aircrafted company came together to form Fuji Heavy Industries - Subaru is both the japanese word for "unite" and for the pliedes constellation - so the badge actually has a double meaning, of the unity of the companies into one, and of the constellation.
The subaru name wasn't applied to any cars until 1958 - when the 360 (see sig and avatar) was introduced, as a "big brother" to Fuji's Rabbit motorscooters...
Fuji Heavy Industries until recently produced airplanes, railcars, busses, and trucks, but only their cars were sold under the Subaru name (excepting the car/truck Brat).

The Alfa Romeo one actually does represent what happens to someone when they take thier Alfa into the dealer because the brakes siezed up. All Alfa dealers set snakes upon the complainers and then the Red Cross has to do a mission to that Alfa dealer. Sad story.
I always thought the reason that people thought Subaru was Australian was because they called the jacked-up Legacy and Outback, that's what someone once told me, anyway. It's no loss to Australia, I'd have an HSV Coupe GTS 300 over any WRX.

They aren't identical, but surely you jest if you don't see a similarity. Both isosceles triangular figures enclosed in a circle.

I replaced my Subaru stars badge with an "i" badge. I'm thinking of fliping it upside down to have an "!" badge. ;)

Here's my guess on acura...
I think the A is a stylized set of calipers kinda like the pair on the left in this picture:
http://www.mikestools.com/Woodworking_Pages/Woodworking_pictures/calipers.jpg
They represent accuracy.
Oh, and I don't get the FIAT explanation at all... what 5 bars?!

The five bar logo was stuck onto the following Fiats: Uno, Strada/Ritmo, Regatta, Croma, Tempra, Tipo, Brava/Bravo, Coupe, Cinquecento, Seicento, Tipo, Punto Mk1, Marea (The forgotten Fiat :p), Ullyse, Panda Multipla and Barchetta. Of course none of these were sold in the US, but it was the definitive Fiat badge for 20-odd years (Until the Mk2 Punto was released where they changed the badge to a Blue Circle with "FIAT" written in it, much like it was 100 years ago).
The story is confusing, but I can confirm that it's all true.
