87 trooper II brake question

My master cylinder is dieing *eep* calling around in parts stores I am being told there are two different master cylinders for this year, pre july 1987 and post july 1987. since I can get a post july 1987 one for 75 dollars and a pre july one for over 200, naturally my first question is this, Can I use the newer one ? My vehicle was manufactured May 87... I hate to think that for a few months time I am going to be socked with 2.5 times the cost of replacement... Does anyone know if the July 87 onward brake master cylinder will work in my trooper II and/or what the difference in these two are?

I don't know the difference between the two and the factory 1987 Trooper manual does not talk about any. I looked up the master cylinder for your Trooper and it was not used for very long, about 8 months. I'll bet that the availibility of rebuildable master cylinders for that short time period is low, driving up the price. Lucky you.

If you have a brake cylinder hone of the right size and type, why not drop a kit in it? PartsAmerica sells a rebuild kit for $46.00. I've done them before and the job is not that difficult. Cleanliness and attention to detail is the key to doing a good rebuild on a master cylinder.

If it were me, I'd rebuild it.

I called around and though a rebuild kit is listed none are currently available. I tried many parts places.... :( Believe me, I jumped at that when i seen there was one made.. noone has or can get one :(

I found several kits at www.rockauto.com.
Look for their parts catalog at the website.

They are also available at PartsAmerica.com (Schucks, Kragen, Checker auto).

I see the kit for sale on many sites but contacting the site or company (in the case of autozone and partsamerica) even though the kit is listed online, it is unavailable. will try the link you sent me. I would much rather pay 50 bux for a kit than 300 bux from the Isuzu for a new master cylinder :)
