valve cover seal leak

Hello,
Has anyone ever had a valve cover seal replaced? If so what did you pay for the job.
My engine is running a little lean and it is making my engine vibrate roughly. At first I thought spak plugs, wires, or cap and rotor. Replaced all that and still seems like it is rough. Sprayed some carborator cleaner around the seal and the engine idle changed, which makes me think air is being sucked in. would this cause a little lag in the acceleration and a rough idle.

check engine compression, but yes, the vlave seals arn't expensive, and you could probobly do them your self. That could explain some of your issues, it's good to get them replaced anywayse. good luck!

I got quote of 285 dollars, seems way to high. Thank you for your advice, now I have the lingo to approach the mechanic. I would try it myself, but it seems like there is a lot of stuff to take off to get to the seal. Its a little intimidating. Anyways thanks for the help.

to open it up to look at my chain/guide situation.
I've done this plenty of times on my 70's era cars but
there looks like a bunch of crap hanging all over the cover
of my 95 22RE
Is there anything special I need to know about or is it
pretty much straight forward.

THERE IS ONE BOLT THAT ALWAYS GETS PEOPLE. ITS UNDER THE VALVE COVER IN THE FRONT OF THE HEAD UNDER A PUDDLE OF OIL IT GOT ME ONCE.

dude seriously important you get a paper and pen and write down a diagram of where all those vacume lines go to, I believe if you have a fuel injected engine 22re, you'l only need to take of the HAI hoses, only 2 of them, but to make sure write it down on a paper so you can go back and remeber what they were for. Also if you take off the cylnder bolts and they are all fucked up and corodded, you need to replace them, because when you put your gasket back on, youll need a torque wrench to tourqe the bolt to the proper specs, very important otherwise you will blow the gasket, and the chiltons manuel gives you the specs for NEW bolts, not old ones that are all fucked up, if you don't want to buy new bolts, just torque a bit tighter to overcompensate. ANd yes there is a bolt under a puddle of oil ny the chain, don't forget that, and makes your crankshaft is at TDC, top dead center, otherwise if you disturb the engine while taking shit apart, youl cause more work for yourself, make sure you make marks of the chain, sprokets, and all if you take shit apart, and line them up when done, and also record your firing order down, cause if you fuck that up when putting your shit back together, it wont be good either. Buy a haynes manuel.
