Suggestions for jetta mods.

I have a 97 jetta GLX VR6 that i want to start modifying, does anybody have any suggestions as to what i should do first?
I have around 1200 to invest on the modifications right now, my idea is to start with the chip, intake and stuff around the motor.
What do you guys think?
oh and don't say rims and tires, i already have them.
