I am new to my crx and this board.
I recently replaced my head gasket and now im getting a gas smell out of my exaust. What could cause this? o2 SENSOR OUT? I didnt unhook anything from the intake/fuel injection when i replaced the gasket.
I have a stock CRX SI '91 with the 1.6l engine.
Until now all i have owned are older cars and trucks, all the electronics are new and mysterious to me.
But i do LOVE my little 5-speed and will NEVER go back.
Thanks,
Rob

welcome to the boards! sounds like your engine isn't completely burning the fuel, really not sure what the prob is
but i'm sure that others will post who know exactly what they're talking about!
happy posting :)

ecu throwing any codes? Its under the carpet on the passenger side foot well, count the blinks to get the code.

oh yeah, did you check your spark plugs? If your headgasket was bad it could have leaked antifreeze into the cylinders and that will eventually mess up spark plugs. Just a thought.

Hi Noob! Welcome! :)
Your check engine light will come on if the O2 sensor is not working. Does the check engine light come on for a few seconds when you start the car? This is normal and verifies the bulb for the check engine light is working.
If there are no indicators the O2 sensor is bad make sure the air filter is nice and clean, and that the car is running on all cylinders at all times. Finally, do you have a gas leak from the tank?
Does anyone else have suggestions?

When you first turn the key to the on position, it will blink once to show that the ecu is getting power. Thats what the first blink probably was. Then it blinked once again which indicates the code for the 02 sensor. 6 is the code for coolant temperature sensor. What i would do is go under the hood and theres a fuse box on the left side (when looking at the car) Open up the fuse box and pull the hazard fuse for a good 10 min. Pop it back in and your ecu is not reset. Drive the car around for a day and see if any of the codes come back. When your car throws a code, it will be saved until the ecu is reset. So its possible that one or both of those were from a while ago and are no longer a problem. Let us know what happens

afaik to reset the ecu you only need to pull the fuse about 10-15 seconds, that's how long I do it on my 91 1.5L but maybe the 1.6 is different?

I reset the ecu and replaced my O2 sensor. It gave me another O2 warning (single blink) I guess im gonna have to trace down some wires and make sure that they arent broken :((

sure its a code?, it blinks every few seconds when the cars on, its not as bright or as long as a code though.

Well i assume its the code blinking cause the engine light had come back on during the test drive. I figure the O2 sensor wire has got a break in it, need to track it down. Course it doesnt help that i got some CRAPPY gas last week at the filling station. Ive got it almost all burned out and gonna get some good gas, octane boost and some fuel dryer.
