Coolant light comes on

I have had my 1998 Chevy Malibu LS since February 2003. My coolant light comes on when the car has been sitting over night or for long periods of time. It goes out after the car has been warmed up. I have heard some people have had a bad gasket and so on. Someone told me it could be a sensor. Can anyone help me?

Replace the sensor, especially if you have confirmed that the radiator is full.

my car somewhat of a similar problem; after the car had set for a while, the light would come on for just a second and then go off. I found out the the sensor is extremely sensitive. My coolant level was touching the line but not even with it and this caused the light to come on.

I had the same problem. Coolant light came on. It was the lower intake manifold gasket to be changed. What a job! :-(
