i have a 59 beetle that i just purchased....the wiring is all messed up and it had an engine fire. I have the original 1200cc engine and the 1500cc that burnt up in the fire. ON the carb of the 1500cc the one that was in the car burnt when i bought it has a 12v electric choke i also did recieve an extra carb also with a 12v choke. The bosch silver box under the back seat opposite side of the battery i would expect is a voltage regulator. From what i have read the voltage regulator was originally on the generator on the 6volts. What are some things i can look for to tell if its a 12volt converted? i have looked all over and i cant tell he has added lights in the front of the car and spliced them into the main power cord in the trunk compartment...and help or advice on how to tell and what i should check would be appreciated. I will be installing an entire wire harness into the car since some of the wires are either fried from the engine fire or up front on is singged.

thanks

12Vs also had the regulator under the seat. Does it have the generator or an alternator? Usually if converted to 12v, theyll use an alternator and get rid of the regulator by splicing the 3 B+ wires @ the regulator. If you are installing a new harness, then why does it matter?
