guages go wacky!

My buds 94 bonneville ssei has guage troubles.when the key is on or the car is running,the guges jump all over.The oil press,temp,boost alt.guages.Also the compass and information center don't work.Fuses and grounds are all good.Any ideas.

Alternator is a good possibility. It may be charging enough to keep the car running but your starting to see its weak. Good test is to start it then un hook the negative battery cable and see if the vehicle will keep running.

I'm on my second cluster. On the first one, the compass, information center, boost, oil and temp gauges would all work intermittently. The second one works better but the oil gauge is always pinned at absolute max (beyond the scale) and the temp gauge is really wonky.
It could just be the connections to the cluster on the back. Sometimes simply removing and reinserting the connector a couple of times cures gauge problems. Other times, it's the cluster itself.
