will coilovers improve our turning radius at all? i feel i have a hard time getting the car to make any close turns

I could be wrong but I dont think that coilovers have any effect on the turning radius. You would have to modify the steering column/rack to do that i guess. Anyway next mods should definitely be suspension ( rear sway bar, rear strut tower bar, shocks/struts) because when you make the car handle better and stick to the road it's a lot more fun, especially in the twisties.

Def. go for suspension modifications next. my mods were cai, i just converted to short ram, muffler but im planning to get magnaflow exhaust, and coilovers. I just got my header in and waiting to install it. You'll like the way your car will handle once you get your suspension done.

I would go with the headers next. I think I am going to take a pass on the turbo kit. This spring I am planning on going with the Greddy EV02 exhaust, headers and a k & N cold air intake. They have some nice headers on that rippmod.com site but they are asking a lot of money for them. Also I have been hearing some negative feedback about they're customer service.

did you know with the money that your gonna spend on the cold air intake and the headers from RIPP, thats over 1/3 of the price of the turbo kit. cold air intake + headers = $1500
turbo kit = $3900
turbo kit = $3900

I can get the exhaust, air intake and headers for under 1500. I can actually get all that for probably 1000. To me that is a lot cheaper than spending 4000.00. Not to mention what it will cost in labor.

nice taurus dude. I want to get a grill mesh for my car to. I like the pictures of some of those girls to from that car wash. (LOL) This spring I am going to do some performance mods but I can't afford to drop 4000.00 on a turbo.

so ur not going with the RIPP headers?
Eclipse66

I like the horsepower gains that they say you get from the headers from RIPP, but some of their prices are kind of high. I have priced headers for a few months now and they do not go for 1,100.00 dollars like what RIPP is charging. So I think I might just wait for DC sports to come out with the headers for my car. I trust their name and their prices are more reasonable. Headers do not go for 1,100.00. They are more like 400.00 - 500.00 range.

The headers that rippmods has are long tube and tuned headers. headers of that quality cost money. Same as horsepower. You can't go cheap and expect to gain the same amount of power. Plus, you are going to need to get an air/fuel controller to extract maximum gains from headers.

Don't get me wrong I love the headers they have on RIPP and they say that the horsepower gain from them is in the 45 range. So that is great but not for 1100.00.
There places that have great quality stainless steel headers and they are not trying to break the bank.

i can see where your coming from. thats why im not going to even get headers. im just gonna get the turbo kit in the near future. just gotta save up the money

I hear you, don't get my wrong I would love to get a turbo kit, headers and the exhaust. Then I would be tearing up people around here. (LOL) I just don't have the money right now so I figure I will go with headers, exhaust and cold air intake. That will still give me about a 50 horsepower gain.
eclipsed4utoo
10-06-2004, 10:32 AM
first off, if you get the turbo kit, you wont need to get headers. second, the only was your gonna get close to 50 horsepower with that combo is to go with RIPP or Hytech headers.
the headers that you are trying to get for around $500 will only net you about 20-25 horsepower, if that much. the exhaust will give you about 2-3 and the intake about 7-10.

the fourth guy to post in that thread, "Joshua", has intake, headers, and exhaust. he dynoed at 192hp. his car has about 170hp stock. so he gained about 22hp and thats tuned with the SAFR
thats with headers that are about $500

I didn't know that you don't need headers with a turbo kit. I thought I read a post from someone that said that you have to get headers if you go turbo. Also someone posted that the Greddy exhaust got a 7 in horsepower if you have the v6. So I figured headers -30 , exhaust -7, and airintake - 5. So maybe about 45 horse increase. But who knows maybe I will splurge after I get my taxes back and go with the Ripp headers.

nah you dont need headers with a turbo, you need them with the SDS. but things dont work the way that you think. just b/c you get 30hp from headers, 7hp from exhaust, and 5hp from intake, doesnt mean you gonna gain 42hp. they effect horsepower at different parts of the powerband.
you cant just add up the horsepower and expect to get that number

oh okay, well I guess I learned something today. (LOL) I can't believe that those RIPP headers give you that much horsepower then. How can they be so much better and give you that much horsepower with nothing else?
eclipsed4utoo
10-06-2004, 11:11 AM
b/c they are long tube headers and they put alot of research and development into them. the ones for $500 are short tube headers.

10-06-2004, 11:16 AM
they way i look at it is like this, if you go for the $500 headers, then you paying half the price of RIPPs headers, and youre getting half the horsepower of the RIPP headers. thats not a bad trade off.
but with the RIPP headers, they are already tuned. if you want all you can out of the RIPP headers, then you will have to tune them a little bit yourself, but it is not necessary. but if you buy the $500 headers, you will have to tune them or your car will run very rich, which will waste gas, and hurt your horsepower. so now you have $500 headers and you have to buy a $250-$300 SAFR

I think I might save my money and come spring go with the Ripp headers. I want more horsepower gain then just in the 20's. But by the time I get finished with their headers, intake and exhaust - I am half way to what turbo would cost. (LOL) Decisions - Decisions! I wish I had about 10,000 to spare. (LOL) Man the things that I would do to my car. (LOL)

Actually I did read on the RIPP website that if you buy the stage 1 supercharger kit that they advise you to have headers to. So actually you do need headers anyway.

oh okay but I like that super charger kit from RIPP. The horsepower gain with that and headers is sick. I read something like the Eclipse V6's were getting something like 350 horsepower.

10-06-2004, 09:33 PM
umm...sorry dude....the stage 3 is dynoing at 299hp to the wheels
Eclipse66
10-06-2004, 09:37 PM
sorry dude but you better go to the stage one page for the supercharger kit and read at the bottom. IT tells you the horsepower gains for the different model Eclipse's and each engine. For the Eclipse V6 - it said 345.8 for manual transmission with headers and a stock exhaust.

Damn I guess thats what Ripp says to get your 4000.00. (LOL) I can't believe all the money those cars have in them and they are only pushing 290 horsepower. I should of made the deal a few years ago on the 3000gt v4. That shit came stock with 300 horsepower and all wheel drive.
eclipsed4utoo
10-06-2004, 09:50 PM
yeah you should have.....its bad when RIPPs own stage 2 stratus is only pushing 311hp. and then they turn around and say that the stage 1 will give you 350

I wish they would come back with the Mitsubishi 3000 gt's. Those cars were awsome looking. The body style was off the hook. Their price range was a little out of my reach though. However one day I was at the dealership to get some thing for my car and I noticed they had one in the showroom with only 25000 miles on it. So I started haggling with the sales man. We were about 1000 dollars apart and a few days later some lady bought it and paid sticker. IT was a sweet car and it was the VR-4. 300 horse power stock.

God I hate it when people think they are all badass just because they know how to put stickers on their cars...if you're gonna talk the talk, freakin walk the walk! stop blabbin and get in there and make an effort...I give more credit to people who try to pimp out their crap cars than to people who just talk about big idea's and never even try to save $ to accomplish them...yeesshh...mwa ha ha!
