I personally don't think the SS is worth an extra 2 grand to the retail price of the camaro (according to Kbb). 89 IROCrs is right. The intake is the only drivetrain difference, which is good for a mere 15 horsepower. Which brings the LS1's output from 305 to 320. (310 to 325 in 2001+). However, don't get me wrong, if you find an SS at a good price, I say go ahead and take it. Not only does it have 15 more horses, but it also comes with bigger tires and wheels (245/16 to 275/17), higher spoiler, and an upgraded suspension.

I used to think they were sooooo much better. Whenever I'd see one it be like, Run for the hills! But shit they don't hardly have much of an edge over a Z28.

so did i, until i drove one.. i didnt really even notice that much of a difference.. but a lot of people that buy the SS are blind to the fact that its more or less an appearance package than performance.. sure there are some upgrades, but buy a Z and put 2k into it.. and it'll blow an SS away..

Is there a SS Z28 camaro. One of my teachers was talking to the class about the cars he had owned. He mentioned that he had a SS Z28 camaro and I kept on wondering all day if there was such a thing.

So tell the truth are the Cobra's all they are cracked up to be? and remember your in the Camaro forum.
BTW- I really wanted a Cobra but I just can't afford another car right now even though I would probably get a 02 Firehawk if I was going to get anything right now.

You could not get a Z28 with the SS package in 67 68 or 69. Only the RS package was available with the Z28 in those years

yea man.. the car is freakin nice... plently of power and handles awsome.....a mini van pulled out in front of me last night on a 2 lane road.. i was doin about 70 and he stopped half way out in the road after he seen me coming... i swerved to avoid him and swerve back to avoid an on coming car get sideways and almost clipped the oncoming car.. got it back around and it slides the other way.. so i steer into it and bring it back around.... i got sideways twice and was able to bring it back around doing around 70 mph... and i didnt touch the brakes.... i love this car now... i think if it was any other car i would have lost it.... the irs and good suspension it what saved me reguardless on how good of a driver i am... afterwards i was so scared my legs were shakin i could barly stand... so yes after that i believe that car can handle some shit

The Z28 SS does exist. The 96 camaro SS was called a Z28 SS and the 97 was only a SS even though they used some of the remaining parts from the 96's on the earlyy 97's.
In fact I have some prototype photos of the 96 SS that have both the Z28 and SS emblems on the doors.
So a SS Z28 doesnt exist.

O.K. here are the facts:
You go into a dealership, and order a "Camaro". You then pick out option "Z28", which is the 5.7 LTR engine. At that point if you want the "SS" package, you pick option "WU8", and you should have been given a suplimental sheet that you picked out what which SLP options you wanted (at additional expense). Then the vehicle was sent to SLP for conversion.
If you purchase the vehicle from the dealer (SS), the standard package gave you the stock intake (except for 96 & 97 or 345 HP package), 3" dual dual exhaust, 1LE springs, and an "Auburn" posi., and upgraded wheels and tires (17" vise 16").
The general rule of thumb, is that "If you were NOT going to mod the vehicle, get the SS. If you ARE going to mod the vehicle, save the $3K and get the Z28.
Hope this helps you out in some way.
